Each summer, fragrance houses come out with summer editions of their most popular scents. Calvin Klein updates its Eternity franchise each April with beach-inspired packaging; Dolce & Gabbana offer their Mediterranean vacation scents; and Jean-Paul Gaultier dresses his Classique bottle in palm leaves and peacocks. Each is a little work of art.
But summer 2015 belongs to YSL’s spectacular Paris Premieres Roses Limited Edition scent. It’s a younger, fresher interpretation of the original eau de toilette scent boasting notes of wild rose, violet leaf, neroli, peony, lily-of-the-valley, white musk and sandalwood.
The packaging and bottle design are the brainchild of Japanese artist Que Houxo who studied at the Tama Art University in Tokyo.
He boasts an ultra-modern method of painting. He projects fluorescent painting on the walls, splashing flowers and using a specific light to reveal their intense colours.
It’s in effect, an explosion of fluorescent flowers dancing under UV lights. A handful of trend experts have identified Houxo as a rising star in the art world.
YSL Paris Premieres Roses Limited Edition arrives exclusively at Hudson’s Bay stores in Canada in mid-April.
I gave away one of these exquisite bottles to one lucky follower. Congrats to Sophie Marsolais! We drew her name at random from all the entries below.

April 13, 2015 at 4:32 amNo, I haven’t never bought perfume based solely on the bottle design, but I do have a lovely collection that belonged to my grandmother and I know she would have adored your unique design. It would be wonderful to win this contest, especially with the drawing being on the 16th, that day is special for me as it is my late Grandfather’s and my late Dad’s birthdays. Maybe that will bring me the special luck I need to be the lucky lady to win. Thank you, Sherry 🙂

April 13, 2015 at 3:54 amI was completely in love with the bottle of Tresor by Lancome when it first came out. Luckily, I happened to be gifted a bottle before I could go buy it myself!

April 13, 2015 at 3:32 amI’ve never bought a fragrance based on bottle design only but I’ve been tempted to before!

April 13, 2015 at 2:58 amI have yet to buy a bottle of perfume just because of how the bottle looked. I am guilty of buying other items just because of the package and some were a good choice while a few I should’ve left alone. This new YSL bottle is stunning!

April 13, 2015 at 12:04 amI’ve never bought a fragrance solely on the bottle design, but maybe unconscionably it has influenced me to buy one fragrance over another. Very luxe looking bottle!

April 12, 2015 at 10:21 pmI’ve never bought a perfume based on just the look of the bottle. If it looks beautiful, then that’s just a little bonus.

April 12, 2015 at 9:29 pmNever by bottle design, I always go by the complexity of the scents! If it has a nice design, that’s a bonus, to look at something done so beautifully!

April 12, 2015 at 8:20 pmI ADORE this packaging. It’s such an ode to modern art it’s absolutely stunning. I’m definiteyl guilty when it comes to purchasing anything, especially fragranes based on the bottle. Marc Jacobs’ Daisy got me with those perfect little flowered caps! My twitter is thisisaiove song (the L in love is a capital i)

April 12, 2015 at 7:43 pmI have never purchased perfume based upon its exterior features. I love a soft fragrance that stands out when you walk into a room full of people. Just because the exterior looks good doesn’t mean that the contents are comparable.

April 12, 2015 at 6:38 pmNo, only for the scent, however a nice bottle design makes the scent more attractive and me more likely to leave it out on display in my house or hotel.

April 12, 2015 at 4:43 pmNo, I wouldn’t buy perfume for its looks. After all, you don’t see perfume, you smell it. So why would I buy something I don’t/know or like the smell of just because it looks pretty? Those looks don’t affect the purchase at all.

April 12, 2015 at 4:00 pmNo, never solely on the bottle design but I’ve definitely been attracted enough to smell/test a fragrance because of the design. I also love hearing interesting stories about the details of the design (ie the ribbon on the latest Burberry bottle).
