When Jean Paul Gaultier launched Divine a few years ago, it instantly became one of my favourite women’s fragrance launches of the year. The amber floral fragrance for her layered notes of bergamot, red berries, lily, ylang-ylang, jasmine, meringue, musk and patchouli to beautiful effect.

This month sees a new addition to the Divine family, Divine Couture. It’s a floral-fruity-gourmand that blends notes of raspberry, citrus, solar notes, meringue, ylang-ylang, geranium, calone, jasmine, benzoin, pine tree, vanilla and amber. It’s more floral than the original with a crisper fruit top note. Nicely done. #davelackiebeauty

Cologne fragrances are ideal for hot summer months. These are the lightest concentrations of essential oils and were literally invented to be splashed on your body to refresh when temperatures rise. I find this type of scent is perfect for anyone who likes light, subtle fragrances. A spray will typically last a couple of hours and works well in business environments. If you are new to colognes, this Hermes travel set is a perfect entry. It contains a 15 ml of Eau de Basilic Pourpre Cologne, Citron Noir Cologne, Rhubarbe Ecarlate and Eau d’Orange Verte Cologne. New York fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez has just launched a really interesting fragrance that explores the house’s signature musk within a fruity chypre-leather structure. It’s called Musc Grenat Eau de Parfum Intense by Narciso Rodriguez and it is classified as a chypre-fruity fragrance for her or him. Composed by perfumer Dora Bagriche, it blends notes of pomegranate, mandarin, saffron, musk, rose, leather, patchouli, sandalwood and vanilla to beautiful effect. The choice of layering soft musk, opulent rose and warm saffron creates a floral-spicy core that works particularly well with the leather and Madagascar vanilla.

“I wanted to create a fragrance that reveals the strength of musc through juicy, explosive pomegranate accord and fiery saffron,” explains Bagriche. “In musc granate eau de parfum intense, the pomegranate accord brings a textured, almost tactile brightness – sweet but not sugary, fresh yet enveloping. It adds a dynamic twist that contrasts beautifully with the musc.” Nicely done. #davelackiebeauty

Happy National Lipstick Day. Today is the day when we celebrate the history, cultural significance and beauty of lipstick. Officially established in 2016 when beauty blogger and entrepreneur Huda Kattan worked with the National Day Calendar to officially declare July 29th as National Lipstick Day. On this day, beauty enthusiasts of all ages and styles are encouraged to proudly wear their favourite lip colours.

It’s interesting to learn that lipstick wasn’t invented by a single person; rather, its form evolved over thousands of years. Ancient Sumerians and Mesopotamians created the first lip colours about 5,000 years ago by crushing gemstones. Arab physician Abu Al-Qasim Al-Zahrawi is credited with inventing the first molded, stick-form lipstick in the Islamic Golden Age. In modern times, American Maurice Levy came up with the first metal lipstick tube in 1915, and thus the mass production of lipstick began.
