Each summer, fragrance houses come out with summer editions of their most popular scents. Calvin Klein updates its Eternity franchise each April with beach-inspired packaging; Dolce & Gabbana offer their Mediterranean vacation scents; and Jean-Paul Gaultier dresses his Classique bottle in palm leaves and peacocks. Each is a little work of art.
But summer 2015 belongs to YSL’s spectacular Paris Premieres Roses Limited Edition scent. It’s a younger, fresher interpretation of the original eau de toilette scent boasting notes of wild rose, violet leaf, neroli, peony, lily-of-the-valley, white musk and sandalwood.
The packaging and bottle design are the brainchild of Japanese artist Que Houxo who studied at the Tama Art University in Tokyo.
He boasts an ultra-modern method of painting. He projects fluorescent painting on the walls, splashing flowers and using a specific light to reveal their intense colours.
It’s in effect, an explosion of fluorescent flowers dancing under UV lights. A handful of trend experts have identified Houxo as a rising star in the art world.
YSL Paris Premieres Roses Limited Edition arrives exclusively at Hudson’s Bay stores in Canada in mid-April.
I gave away one of these exquisite bottles to one lucky follower. Congrats to Sophie Marsolais! We drew her name at random from all the entries below.

April 12, 2015 at 2:26 pmYes, I have! Bond No. 9 has done some incredible collaborations, and I just had to have that Union Square bottle that came with the flower necklace! They make some wonderful collectibles. If I had more money, I would buy them all!
Though now that I think about it, I probably would have been less inclined to drop half a grand on a bottle of perfume if I also didn’t like the scent, so maybe I haven’t bought a perfume SOLELY because of the bottle design!
Also, my twitter is @lauriefrommiami
Good luck to everyone!

April 12, 2015 at 2:01 pmI have way too often bought a fragrance just for the bottle design alone! I have probably 40 perfumes- more than half were for the beautiful bottle designs. It’s always a plus if I love the fragrance as well of course. 😉

April 12, 2015 at 12:51 pmI have bought many fragrances just for the bottle and love to display them. Sometimes the bottle influences me to buy the item as a gift for a friend, as if she does not like the fragrance, the bottle can be beautifully displayed. But most of the time, the fragrance itself drives the purchase.
The bottle of my signature fragrance is very plain, by the way!

April 12, 2015 at 10:43 amAs much as I may love the design of a bottle, I still have to like the scent, before considering purchasing it.

April 12, 2015 at 9:37 amI have never bought perfume for its package. It’s a challenge to find a fragrance that I like so I stick to the content. It’s a bonus if the bottle is cool!

April 12, 2015 at 9:32 amHave been tempted a few times, and have felt disappointed when the smell doesn’t match up to the fabulous packaging. Guess for me anyways, it still boils down to how fabulous it smells!

April 12, 2015 at 9:26 amI once got S by Shakira Elixir solely for the shape of the bottle. I’m in lovewith how simple, yet elegant, the design is, and I loved the charm with the stylized “S” cut out of it. And the fragrance itself is lovely!

April 12, 2015 at 8:32 amI have bought perfume based on the bottle before. But it is a part of the complete package that I love and desire in a perfect perfume. It’s supposed to be a visual representation of what’s inside. And nothing less can be expected from luxury lines.

April 12, 2015 at 3:28 amIn the early 90s I was in high school and bought Ralph Lauren Safari because I loved the faceted crystal bottle. It was beautiful and I loved having it on my vanity for years.
