Each summer, fragrance houses come out with summer editions of their most popular scents. Calvin Klein updates its Eternity franchise each April with beach-inspired packaging; Dolce & Gabbana offer their Mediterranean vacation scents; and Jean-Paul Gaultier dresses his Classique bottle in palm leaves and peacocks. Each is a little work of art.
But summer 2015 belongs to YSL’s spectacular Paris Premieres Roses Limited Edition scent. It’s a younger, fresher interpretation of the original eau de toilette scent boasting notes of wild rose, violet leaf, neroli, peony, lily-of-the-valley, white musk and sandalwood.
The packaging and bottle design are the brainchild of Japanese artist Que Houxo who studied at the Tama Art University in Tokyo.
He boasts an ultra-modern method of painting. He projects fluorescent painting on the walls, splashing flowers and using a specific light to reveal their intense colours.
It’s in effect, an explosion of fluorescent flowers dancing under UV lights. A handful of trend experts have identified Houxo as a rising star in the art world.
YSL Paris Premieres Roses Limited Edition arrives exclusively at Hudson’s Bay stores in Canada in mid-April.
I gave away one of these exquisite bottles to one lucky follower. Congrats to Sophie Marsolais! We drew her name at random from all the entries below.

April 9, 2015 at 8:43 amYes, I have bought a fragrance solely based on the bottle design. @FinestFinn Thank you, Dave, for your generosity. I love the beauty shows that you attend. I always think what a fun job!

April 9, 2015 at 8:36 amMarc Jacobs dot is just beautiful. I couldn’t choose between that and daisy, but went for dot purely based on the packaging! Luckily it is a beautiful fragrance as well as visually pleasing haha

April 9, 2015 at 8:25 amOh wow!! This is a beautiful bottled fragrance. I haven’t ever bought a fragrance by the beautiful design of the bottle. I’ve always been afraid I’d get home with it and not like the smell of the perfume. As I do love the beautifully designed bottles, I always like to put a little spritz of the fragrance on my hand to make sure it smells good and will smell good on me. I do love each line you put out. Thank you Dave for all you do. Hope you have a great day!!!

I always choose fragrances by the bottle 🙂 then I’ll try it:) but I’m the worse for judging a book by the cover when it comes to perfume, and this one is GORGEOUS!

April 9, 2015 at 7:42 amI typically buy for the fragrance first but I do have a few in my wardrobe that I purchased for the bottle… Shalimar by Guerlain is one, it’s such an iconic bottle and scent, I had to have it!
