Each summer, fragrance houses come out with summer editions of their most popular scents. Calvin Klein updates its Eternity franchise each April with beach-inspired packaging; Dolce & Gabbana offer their Mediterranean vacation scents; and Jean-Paul Gaultier dresses his Classique bottle in palm leaves and peacocks. Each is a little work of art.
But summer 2015 belongs to YSL’s spectacular Paris Premieres Roses Limited Edition scent. It’s a younger, fresher interpretation of the original eau de toilette scent boasting notes of wild rose, violet leaf, neroli, peony, lily-of-the-valley, white musk and sandalwood.
The packaging and bottle design are the brainchild of Japanese artist Que Houxo who studied at the Tama Art University in Tokyo.
He boasts an ultra-modern method of painting. He projects fluorescent painting on the walls, splashing flowers and using a specific light to reveal their intense colours.
It’s in effect, an explosion of fluorescent flowers dancing under UV lights. A handful of trend experts have identified Houxo as a rising star in the art world.
YSL Paris Premieres Roses Limited Edition arrives exclusively at Hudson’s Bay stores in Canada in mid-April.
I gave away one of these exquisite bottles to one lucky follower. Congrats to Sophie Marsolais! We drew her name at random from all the entries below.

April 11, 2015 at 9:22 amCollector bottles are not my thing. It’s what’s inside that counts.

April 11, 2015 at 7:30 amI buy perfume for the scent, however, I also love the packaging of the perfumes I buy. If it’s in a beautiful bottle with a scent I enjoy, I’ll also buy a bottle for my daughter to try.

April 11, 2015 at 2:40 amI have only collected the bottles of antique style but I would love to have at times been able to enjoy the beauty beyond the art I feel in love with. I love the era of the 1930’s and the craftmanship. You out did yourself again.

April 11, 2015 at 12:47 amYes, I have bought a perfume because of the bottle. It helped that I liked the scent, but I loved the way it looked on my vanity. And I have, of course, bought crystal bottles and decanted to them from perfume bottles when I loved the scent, but didn’t care for the bottle. Looks are as good a reason as smell to buy perfume- the more senses involved the better.

April 10, 2015 at 11:37 pmThere are a lot of exceptionally pretty fragrance bottles. While I admit that I have been tempted, I have never bought a fragrance based on sight. I have to love the way it smells! @cupper73
