#BCAstrength Friends Supporting Friends Contest

#BCAstrength Friends Supporting Friends Contest! One of the things I’ve learned over the past two years on Twitter is that every cancer survivor that has shared his or her story with me counts a host of family, friends and caregivers that helped them beat this disease. Some sit with them during doctor appointments. Others take care of their kids during chemo treatments. And some just check in regularly on social media with a kind word of support. Over and over I hear the message that they couldn’t do it alone.

I remember one woman telling me that it was the friends she had made on Twitter that gave her the strength to go through the chemo treatments. When she was feeling badly, she’d log onto Twitter and her friends would cheer her up.

The Giveaway: For this reason, I’m giving away this double set of #BCAstrength Pink Ribbon items on my blog. One set is for that person that has really helped you through a difficult time. That may be breast cancer or it can be any illness or difficulty. And the second set is for you. Tell me in a blog post comment below who you’d like to thank with one of these sets. On October 31st, I drew the name Natasha from Canada from all the entries. Thank you to everyone who shared their incredible stories. You are all heroes to me.

You can also help support the fight against breast cancer by visiting BCAcampaign.com. Post a video, photo or message and the Estee Lauder Companies will donate $25 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. This will fund 30 minutes of breast cancer research.

“We have accomplished so much, but there’s still a lot of work ahead of us to make breast cancer a thing of the past,” says Elizabeth Hurley, Global Ambassador of the BCA Campaign. “Simple gestures, from reminding your friends to schedule their annual health appointments to making a donation in a loved one’s honour to supporting lifesaving research, can go a long way. When we join together and take action together for a common goal, we really can accomplish anything.”

I would love to win this for my daughters! They are my strength! They give me hope and help me everyday! Having 2 complete sets is perfect! Although they’ve outgrown the arguing over who gets what, I love being able to bless them equally. Just the way they do for me. 😀

I would like to give the second set to my cousin Gail. When my mom became very ill from strokes and could no longer recognize anyone, Gail was one of the only people who kept going to see her. She also was a rock when I needed someone to lean on during that difficult year and a half as my mom slowly slipped away. @Shellbran3

I would share this with my mother and my best friend from childhood. I became seriously ill in 2008 and spent nearly two years in the hospital. I was unable to care for myself and had to move back home, as an adult. My best friend packed up my house and visited me daily while I was in the hospital and afterwards was always there. My mother not only visited me daily, but also had to meet with doctors, get medications, and take care of my daily needs including feeding me and taking care of all my normal responsibilities like bills. In 2013, my mother nearly died and I was able to be there for her through the hospitalizations, the “mystery diagnoses,” the bureaucracy of getting care, the surgery and the recovery aftermath in nursing care and then home care for months. If not for her and my friend, I would not have been capable of returning the care she so needed at the time because I would not have survived myself. Neither one treats themselves to luxury beauty products, so this would be a lovely way to spread gratitude. Thank you so much for doing this, Dave. And all of the awareness you are bringing through Twitter, your blog and your newsletter. xo @goldmeteor

Mom, always a mom 🙂 Who else! My mom has mothered me through my parents divorce, when I did not exactly want to be mothered, and thru my teen pregnancy and thru my rebelliousness into a place where I now have a happy, healthy, family of my own and am able to love on her freely! @luchaewilliams

    Dave,

This isn’t a contest entry. I just wanted to say I don’ t know how you are doing this. I’ve been reading these comments and I am in tears. All these lives touched by this disease. But people still hope and it is wonderful (if emotional) to read these tributes to their loved ones.

Good luck to all who participate and I wish everyone a long wonderful life and a cure for this wretched disease.

I read every single one of these entries and yes, these stories are so heartbreaking at times. There are so many strong women and men fighting this terrible disease. I wish I had prizes to send to each and every one Gail. They all deserve them.

My good friend Camille would be my choice. When we were room-mates her mother suffered a second bout of breast cancer and Camille moved back to her home-town (Petrolia) to provide palliative care for her mother. Sadly, her mom (Marilyn) passed away 9 years ago and as a tribute to her mother; Camille switched jobs and began working for the Cancer Society doing communications.

She’s still there making a difference in people’s lives; educating them, promoting their programs and I have admired her drive and dedication to this cause for years.

    Thank you for your time.

Dave, Johanna H has stuck with me through years of my poor health. She lost her mother to cancer several years ago and keeps on going, though the grief stays fresh. She rarely treats herself to anything and deserves so much.
