YSL has long been a favourite beauty brand of mine. From the exquisite packaging to the cutting-edge formulas, this is a brand that offers great quality for money. I particularly like how Tom Pecheux, Creative Director of Makeup tests all the shades on a wide range of skin tones to ensure they are flattering for everyone.

I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing several of the YSL Beauty scientists in the past and the most interesting aspect of the brand is where they find inspiration for the new products. When it comes to colour, it is the car industry that sets the colour trends. These multi-billion dollar firms spend a fortune developing fashionable colours for their latest models. And the same paint companies that create the colours for the auto industry produce the colour pigment for beauty companies. When it comes to texture, candy companies are very important to beauty brands. Think about the texture of gummy bears – this can be used for beauty products. Many popular candies have inspired lip colour, shadows and blushes. It’s fascinating.

February 1, 2022 at 9:21 pmI used to have a favorite lipstick brand called Flori Robers but they have too many items that are “out of stock.” This was even before the pandemic. So this has left me a free agent with make up and lipstick. I will keep plugging away at it to find a “favorite” brand again. It is too exacerbating to shlepp to the box department stores at the malls. Over the last few years it seams every time I have gone to a counter “the regular saleswoman” is not there and the person I am talking to does not know the stock.
