I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing several of the YSL Beauty scientists in the past and the most interesting aspect of the brand is where they find inspiration for the new products. When it comes to colour, it is the car industry that sets the colour trends. These multi-billion dollar firms spend a fortune developing fashionable colours for their latest models. And the same paint companies that create the colours for the auto industry produce the colour pigment for beauty companies. When it comes to texture, candy companies are very important to beauty brands. Think about the texture of gummy bears – this can be used for beauty products. Many popular candies have inspired lip colour, shadows and blushes. It’s fascinating.
