shu uemura x maison kitsune! Edgy Japanese artistry makeup brand shu uemura is known for its artistic collaborations. Remember last year’s limited edition collection by Karl Lagerfeld’s cat? This year, the brand looks to fashion for inspiration with a limited edition collection with contemporary fashion brand Maison Kitsune. There is an “East meets West” theme throughout the products and packaging. So you’ll see little icons that reference French life and those that illustrate Japanese culture. What I like about it is the colour selection is really wearable. Here is a look at shu uemura for Holiday 2015.
brand: shu uemura
city: Tokyo
fashion brand: Maison Kitsune
city: Paris
background: Gildas Loaec and Masaya Kuroki are known for reinventing the classics through daring colours, prints and materials. They conceived their company in 2002 on a trip to Japan where they decided to bring their passions together around a single concept: one-of-a-kind fashion that unites style, music and design.
Meaning: kitsune means “fox” in Japanese
The muse: Singer, musician, model and actress Heather Boo is the brand’s muse. She performs with her band “Beau” and illustrates a modern approach to beauty.
The collaboration: Japanese artistry makeup brand shu uemura has teamed up with street-style fashion brand maison kitsune to for its limited edition holiday collection.

Get shu’s new East-meets-West look
- Outline the eye with a drawing pencil. Create a thin line close to the rims and thicker in the center.
- When closing your eyes, create gradation with the eyeshadow palette using shades 1 to 3 (identified in the palette). Apply shade #1 close to the eyeline. Bend blend in shade #2 and then 3 to create gradation towards the upper edge of the eyelid. Use your drawing pencil to draw a line from the edge of the eye to the upper eye rim.
- Repeat the colour gradation below the eyes using the same steps. Use a drawing pencil to complete the coloured wing accent.
- Apply cheek colour at the uppermost part of the cheekbone just under the eye in a round shape. Gradually blend into the skin in a downward motion.
The giveaway: I gave away this selection of shu uemura x maison kitsune to one lucky reader. I drew the name Vanessa S from all those who commented below. Congrats Vanessa!

December 16, 2015 at 8:23 amI am dying to try the PorEraser UV underbase mousse — makeup without protection is just asking for wrinkles!! I have always loved makeup primers and the Japanese seem to have a corner on this market. And Shu does skincare right!!
