Matte or Shimmer Nude Gloss for Autumn? (tell us & win) When the nude “no makeup” look debuted in Milan almost a decade ago, few industry experts expected it to become the beauty look of a generation. But that is exactly what has happened.
Neutral makeup is the signature look of Generation Y who frequent music festivals, hang out in coffee bars and are connected to their smart phones 24/7. But what looks like no makeup is actually a clever application of beiges, sands and highlighters to create a dewy, fresh-faced effect.
And no other product has had an effect like nude lip gloss. From soft champagne to latte to deep chocolate, nude shades are best-sellers around the globe (second only to pink).
Wear them on their own or layer them over lipstick to tone down a strong shade. Shimmer and high gloss textures have been wildly popular for more than five years. The new trend is matte.
“The easiest way to update your look for Autumn is to change the texture from a shiny gloss to a matte,” explains Rebecca Restrepo, Elizabeth Arden’s celebrity makeup artist.
“For someone who is afraid of changing colour, start by adjusting the texture.” When it comes to selecting a neutral lip hue, she recommends starting with a colour that is one or two shades lighter or darker then your natural lip colour.
“That is a great place to start. I recommend wearing a new colour for a full day before you make up your mind. It’s important to live with it for a bit to see if you really like it.”
I gave away this set to one lucky reader. Michelle S from California told us she prefers shimmer to matte glosses. We drew her name at random from all those who entered. Congrats Michelle!

October 28, 2015 at 7:38 pmSome shimmer with nudes but not glittery – that’s too much, same for really glossy. Natural-looking shine is what I want.
