Beauty Master Class: Senior Artist Jane McKay picks her all-time ten favourite MAC products. One of my favourite aspects of editing BEAUTY the guide is the opportunity to interview really interesting people. And at the top of my list are the MAC Senior Artists. Melissa Gibson, Caitlin Callahan and Jane McKay are three of the most passionate, talented and knowledgeable artists I’ve met. Not only do they work across Canada with VIPs, top fashion photographers and style magazines, but they actually travel to New York, Paris, Milan and London where they work backstage during Fashion Week. They work on the models that showcase the season’s top collections. So when it comes to runway trends, they are there where they start.

 

I interviewed Jane and asked her to share her favourite MAC products. These are the items and shades that she goes back to time and again.

Where: Based in Toronto, McKay works backstage during fashion week in Paris, Milan and New York on some of the biggest designer shows.

What: Her all-time ten favourite MAC items

 

1. Strobe Cream

“I love it as a light-reflecting moisturizer on fair-to-mid skin tones. It evens the complexion and helps create a glow.”

2. Select Moisture Cover Concealer

“This formula is fantastic for sheer-to-medium coverage. I almost always use it under the eyes as it never looks heavy.”

3. Mineralize Skin Finish Powder

“I like to call this a modern Studio Fix. It provides a sheer-to-medium coverage that can be used alone or on top of foundation.”

4. Fix + Spray

“This is a super-hydrating, lightweight moisturizer for underneath or on top of makeup. It helps take away the dry appearance that powders sometime leave on the skin.”

5. Haught N’ Naughty Mascara

“I love the versatility of the wand. I can create a minimal lash or a really full, thick lash by alternating the simple ‘wiper system’.”

6. Russian Red Lipstick

“It’s my favourite go-to red. I can sheer it down to look like a crimson stain or build it up to look opaque and dramatic.”

7. Powersurge Kohl Eye Pencil

“It’s the perfect tarnished gold. I use it all the time to frame under the eyes. It never looks heavy.”

8. Revealing Lipglass

“I consider this shade a mid-tone warm beige. It looks fabulous on all skin tones and especially good on dark complexions.”

9. Dainty Blush

“For me, this is the ideal mid-tone pink/peach. It’s a slightly light reflective blush. Very pretty.”

10. Omega Eye Shadow

“I use this ash blond neutral shade to fill in brows. It also works well as a soft contour shade.”
