Kiehl’s x Peter Max

Kiehl’s + Peter Max (win it) Popular American apothecary skincare brand Kiehl’s has partnered with pop art icon Peter Max for a limited edition collection for holiday 2015. Here’s the background on the project.

Brand: Kiehl’s

City: New York City

Holiday Collection: Kiehl’s x Peter Max

The artist: Peter Max

American pop artist Peter Max

Background: Max is a German-born, New York-based artist who rose to fame when his colourful, psychedelic art captured the imagination of the 60s generation. Appearing on the cover of Life magazine, and on the Johnny Carson and Ed Sullivan shows, Peter was considered the visual arts counterpart to the music of the Beatles. The eye-popping creations have appeared on a Continental 777 super jet, a Norwegian Lines cruise ship, and a postage stamp. He’s most closely associated with the Woodstock generation thanks to his bold use of colour.

Musical connection: His work was brought to the MTV generation in the 1980s when it was featured in the music video for Missing Persons’ Surrender your Heart single.

Artistic partnerships: Kiehl’s has a long-standing heritage of working with a different artist each holiday season to create artwork to adorn the brand’s most popular products. Past campaigns have included Jeff Koons, Kenny Scharf, Eric Haze and Craig & Karl.

The inspiration: This year’s artwork is inspired by Max’s legendary work “The Cosmic Runner” and boasts sunsets over mountains, rolling landscapes, and puffy clouds. His ironic “Holiday Flyers” dance across the sky through his signature vibrant colour palette.

I absolutely love the bold, saturated colour choices of this packaging. It stands out to the consumer which a company would want! It makes it great for advertising! I also feel like it is sort of a juxtaposition with all the colors during winter time!

Honestly I’m not a huge fan of the packaging, it looks busy and distracting, just too much on the eyes but what matters most is the quality of the product. 🙂 @se7enramiel

Design of packaging is quite unusual, reminds some cartoons. But I like colorful stuff since it brings light to everyday life. Thanks @mejlik

The packaging reminds me of Spring Break. I love to see art even in packaging. I like anything that enriches life through beauty, and I think one would find her/himself staring at the package while using the product. Neat little trick to get the brain working.

The boxes and gift bags are perfect for a festive gift and I love the feeling of happiness they exude.
