Guerlain’s Black Bees
The famed French beauty house taps the power of organic honey by rare black bees to create its Renew & Repair Serum. Here’s the story behind the serum.
Ouessant Island
Brand: Guerlain
City: Paris
Launch: Abeille Royale Double R Serum
The formula: a fresh and light gel that creates an immediate tensing and reshaping effect on skin. The thin and melting emulsion melts into skin helping to restore the effect of elasticity and firmness
Background: Inspired by dermatological procedures, its formula is enriched with a “lamellar gel”, a maze-like strata that optimizes skin tolerance. Three major acids (lactic, citric and glycolic) are gradually diffused, resulting in a gentle and continuous ‘new skin’ effect. The combination of AHAs doubles skin renewal while remaining gentle on the epidermis.
New discovery: It took 8 years of collaboration with the leading figures of the French Cosmetic Valley to shed light on the TIEG1 gene which encourages proper skin structure. By targeting this gene, the Repair formula helps to both stimulate the synthesis of hyaluronic acid and repair fragmented collagen.
The power of bees: Royal Jelly is produced by Black Bees from Ouessant and offers remarkable skin benefits. Ouessant Island is located 18 km off the coast of Brittany and is classified as a natural reserve by UNESCO. The Black Bees there produce exceptionally pure honey due to its genetic properties and the ecosystem free of all pollution and intensive farming.
Fresh formula: The bottle is separated into two halves – keeping the integrity of each formula until you are ready to use it.

September 19, 2018 at 7:40 amHi Dave, Love the new website. This was a beautiful article. Bees play a very important role in our health and lives.
I was recently stung and one of the remedies I looked up was to put honey on the sting. I did and it took the pain away. So very clearly Honey has healing properties. Thanks for the great articles.
