One of the biggest surprises for me when I first joined Twitter two years ago was how many truly lovely people I met. I’ve told the story several times that I resisted joining social media as the editors in my city used it to show how fabulous they were. It came across to me as bragging and I didn’t want anything to do with that. Thankfully my friend Heather convinced me to join and I was immediately taken on how many great people are on Twitter. I met Nina Westbury (@ninawmakeup) on Twitter when she won one of my contests. She gave me the wrong address to her house twice!! I discovered the Bridgette Jones of Beauty through social media. She’s become such a dear friend. She makes me laugh so hard with her misadventures and the stories she makes up about me. My favourite was when she told everyone I insisted her son play the harp at our events. There are so many others I’ve met. It would take pages to list them all. But I’m so grateful to have met each of you.
There were so many people who shared their incredible stories below. If you get a chance, read through them. They’re heartwarming. Everyone had a great story. I drew from all entries below and Stacy Bauer from the U.S. was the winner. Big thanks to all who entered!

April 26, 2015 at 12:27 pmThe sweetest person I have met on Twitter is @sophiaphotos, a young, fierce, transgendered woman in Toronto, Canada, whom I have never met. Sophia is becoming known in Canada as a brave and willing spokesperson for the transgender community. I live far from her (also in Canada), and am a regular old middle-aged straight woman (well, middle-aged if I live to 100 … ). Followng and twitter-chatting with Sophia has helped me to peer into and try to better understand this community and the issues they face — issues that have never crossed my mind before Sophia. And most importantly, it has really has shown what I have always known: we are all humans; we all face issues of bias outside our own “communities” and we all really belong to one big community, and we need to understand each other and offer support. All colours, all genders, all people. As a middle aged “cis” woman, my beauty needs are different from Sophia’s but we both have them, an, speaking for her without her permission, I would suggest that we both would really be excited to win this beauty kit. While on the outside, the reasons are different, on the inside, they’re really about looking one’s best to present to the world: people we love and people we don’t even know (yet). AND looking our best for ourselves, to feel empowered, accepted, and beautiful. Anyway, whoever you choose is lucky: I sure do enjoy your blogs and I am craaaazy about fine cosmetics. And I am grateful to Sophia for putting herself out there, because that is courageous, difficult, and frustrating, I’m sure!

The way you talk to enough other about Nina’s champagne obsessions and Dave’s “rugby tackles” has me laughing with tears in my eyes at my phone and people think I am a lunatic!
I would say that the loveliest beauty related friend I have made on Twitter would be @daisypersonblog. I live in South Africa and the beauty blogging industry is super small and its amazing to find like minded people who you can chat to at any time of the day or night. She is lovely!!
