One of the biggest surprises for me when I first joined Twitter two years ago was how many truly lovely people I met. I’ve told the story several times that I resisted joining social media as the editors in my city used it to show how fabulous they were. It came across to me as bragging and I didn’t want anything to do with that. Thankfully my friend Heather convinced me to join and I was immediately taken on how many great people are on Twitter. I met Nina Westbury (@ninawmakeup) on Twitter when she won one of my contests. She gave me the wrong address to her house twice!! I discovered the Bridgette Jones of Beauty through social media. She’s become such a dear friend. She makes me laugh so hard with her misadventures and the stories she makes up about me. My favourite was when she told everyone I insisted her son play the harp at our events. There are so many others I’ve met. It would take pages to list them all. But I’m so grateful to have met each of you.
There were so many people who shared their incredible stories below. If you get a chance, read through them. They’re heartwarming. Everyone had a great story. I drew from all entries below and Stacy Bauer from the U.S. was the winner. Big thanks to all who entered!

In the same forest there lived a Very Strange Yam, who rarely ventured down from her treehouse to wade through the rampant zombie infestation below. Yet somehow, through a series of Grand Adventures, the hedgehog and the yam became fast friends who would adore each other always. The end.

As we began chatting more, we learned that we were spending so much time on Twitter because our lives had halted due to serious events. Mine due to losing my beloved Mum very suddenly, and hers after a serious knee injury left her virtually immobile awaiting an operation. Well, nearly a year on and I’m looking forward to a move to Brighton and the next chapter of my life. Gemma has had her surgery and last week walked without crutches for the first time since her injury! Still a way to go for both of us but we’ve supported each other and become great friends, despite being from opposite ends of the country!
