Dark Dramatic or Autumn Nudes?

Dark Dramatic or Autumn Nudes? (tell us & win) There were two clear camps during Fashion Week for Autumn 2015: dark and moody or soft and neutral. That was the makeup direction that came from the runways of Paris, New York, Milan and London. Lips were either darkened rouge or barely there neutrals. Bright pinks, fuchsias and corals were pushed to the sidelines. I think the biggest surprise for me was seeing how dark the lips were at Trussardi in Milan! This is one of the oldest and most conservative luxury brands in the country. And models came down the catwalk with an almost black lip. It certainly got editors’ attention.

Celebrity makeup artist Rebecca Restrepo is always one of my favourite artists to make sense of the trends. She’s the brainchild behind Elizabeth Arden’s makeup collections and she tests her colour stories on all skin tones and age groups to find colours that work in real life. “In general, I think women can get stuck in a makeup rut when it comes to colour. They find one or two shades they feel comfortable in and they stick with them for years. But we need to evolve and change over time. I recommend trying a new shade for a full 24 hours before deciding whether you like it or not. Try a colour that you might not normally buy and see what reactions you get throughout the day.” She says that runway makeup is often created to make a statement and get noticed. But any shade can be adapted in real life. It is just how you apply and wear it.

“I think the easiest way to update your look this season is change the texture to matte. If you’ve gone with lip gloss for ages, switch it up. Of if you’ve worn lip stains for a while, try a lipstick. The new moisturizing versions are very comfortable to wear.”

One of Restrepo’s projects she’s most proud of is the Arden Beautiful Colour Moisturizing Lipstick collection. The formula boasts moisture-enriched pigments and Volulip to seal in hydration. This helps looks look plumper and fuller.

I gave away these six Arden lipsticks to one lucky reader. I drew the name Kenetrice Nicholee from all those who commented. Congrats Kenetrice!

They’re all stunning. I am leaning towards the darker shades more although the nudes are probably more wearable.

Love the dark shades but with my skin the lighter ones would suit better 🙂

Sunburst, Sweet Pink & Pink Pink are what I’d choose first. Darker days and drizzly rains won’t make me blue so long as I can apply a summer hue

Autumn nudes for me – perfect for an everyday look where you don’t want to appear as though you are wearing a lot of make up. I do love my bold shades too, especially red! I’m now keeping those aside for days out rather than everyday.

I really enjoy the darker shades. They give me the option of keeping them bold, or using a tissue to dab a bit and make them a bit lighter, making them versatile for my mood or what i am wearing.
    Thank you for the opportunity!

Dark Lip = my signature lip. I would totally gravitate to the dark shades but love the nudes as well!

I would wear all the shades, although I would get more use out of the nude colours, which I would wear on a daily basis.

I’d always lean towards the nudes but I’d definitely like to rock Ultra Violet. Great fall colour.
