A Supermodel’s Guide to Paris
Canadian supermodel Crista Cober grew up in Wellesley, Southwestern Ontario before embarking on a whirlwind modeling career that has seen her walk international catwalks, appear in ad campaigns for Balmain and Armani Exchange and most recently, star in the YSL Mon Paris ad campaign (with actor Jeremie Laheurte) . She’s appeared on the covers of Marie Claire, Vogue Espana, ELLE France, and French Glamour magazines. She credits her solid Canadian work ethic for her success. Here she shares a peek into her life and favourite city.
D.L.: What role does fragrance play in your life?
C.C.: Fragrance is the final touch to my morning routine and sets the tone for the day.
D.L.: What are your favourite notes in a perfume?
C.C.: Anything floral. Mostly rose. That is why I particularly like Datura flower in Mon Paris.
D.L.: What makes a woman beautiful?
C.C.: Strength, honour, presence and a bit of mystery behind the eyes. My definition of beauty is staying true to oneself and shining from the inside.
D.L.: What are your favourite beauty products?
C.C.: My top three products are Avene spray water, Kiss & Blush and tinted moisturizers.
D.L.: How do you approach skincare?
C.C.: I always wash my face after a long day, and moisturize my face, neck and chest.
D.L.: You’ve been on so many high fashion photo shoots. What is the best tip you’ve learned?
C.C.: It’s to set makeup with a light mist of water. It really does help.
D.L.: How did you get into modeling?
C.C.: Before being scouted, I had never considered it. It was a chance encounter with a brilliant model scout in my hometown in Canada that started me in this industry. But I really rely on family during all my travels.
D.L.: What is the greatest moment you’ve experienced so far as a model?
C.C.: Shooting a portrait for Italian Vogue with Steven Meisel on my 30th birthday.
D.L.: Who is your biggest inspiration?
C.C.: My grandmother
D.L.: For most, visiting Paris is a dream. What is the city really like?
C.C.: I would describe Paris as dreamlike, inspiring, historical, enchanting and above all, a beautiful city. The most romantic place to me is a quiet spot on the side of the Seine.
D.L.: Where do you find the most beautiful view of Paris (besides the Eiffel Tower)?
C.C.: The most beautiful view of Paris I’ve ever seen was from the roof of the Opera house during the shooting of the Mon Paris’ campaign. That is where it was actually shot.
D.L.: When you lived in Paris, what did you like to do in your spare time?
C.C.: I liked to take the subway to new stops and walk without a map for a few hours to discover new places. I liked to explore the city.
