One of the biggest global beauty trends of 2025 is One of the biggest global beauty trends of 2025 is the rise of dermatologist-guided skincare brands. Market research companies are reporting that consumers today are looking for products that have been scientifically formulated and tested under the watchful eyes of doctors who have a wealth of experience helping to solve skincare issues for patients in their clinics.

Clinique pioneered this trend as the world’s first dermatologist-guided prestige skincare brand in 1968 thanks to Dr. Norman Orentreich, a Manhattan-based doctor doing cutting-edge skin allergy science research. This is an image of Dr Norman Orentreich (centre) founding dermatologist of Clinique with his children Drs. Catherine and David Orentreich. He devised the “cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize” concept that is followed by most brands today. He was, in fact, the first president of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.

Through his clinical research, he discovered that fragrance ingredients in formulas can irritate skin. Armed with this research, he made the bold move to formulate all Clinique products without fragrance, something unheard of at the time (most premium skincare was highly scented then). Next, he created a rigorous Allergy Science protocol for Clinique Laboratories. Each formula was tested at every stage in the product development process for any kind of irritation. If there was even one reaction, it was reformulated. He was a fearless crusader for safe and effective ingredients in skincare, particularly for those with sensitive skin.

What’s unique about Clinique’s guiding dermatologists today is that it includes Dr Catherine and Dr David Orentreich who continue their father’s legacy of scientific research in skin biology (Norman passed away in 2019 at the age of 96). I don’t know of any other skincare brand with multi-generational dermatologists like this.

Do you look for dermatologist-guided brands when shopping for skincare? Do you prefer fragrance-free products? Let me know in the comments.

Giveaway: Happy Birthday, Clinique 3-Step! The ico Giveaway: Happy Birthday, Clinique 3-Step! The iconic skincare regime launched 57 years ago at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City. A fascinating discussion this morning with @annett A fascinating discussion this morning with @annette.hamm on the global perfume theft phenomenon. Retailers around the world are having to lock their fragrances behind glass walls to prevent shoplifters and organized crime from walking away with thousands of dollars worth of product.

This all started with Covid which kicked off a serious of events that created a ‘perfect storm’ for this global theft. In 2019, Covid suddenly hit. Workers were ordered to work from home. This was the era of the ‘fragrance-free work environment’. So suddenly, people could wear as much perfume as they wanted each day. And they started to rediscover perfume. It was coincidentally the same time that fragrance houses were offering ‘discovery kits’ where you could buy a set of vial-sized scents to try at home. With time on their hands at home, Gen Z turned to fragrance and snapped up these kits. They started started reviewing them on social media platforms. Sales of men’s and women’s fragrances surged immediately – nobody in the industry had planned or expected this. There was a global demand for all scents.

Add to this the fact that Covid made securing raw materials for making perfume very difficult and expensive. The atomizers for the bottles are all made in China – which closed their shipping. Fragrance houses couldn’t produce as many bottles of perfume for sale. Prices jumped. What was once $90 a bottle, became $120, then $170 and now $200. It didn’t slow the sales.

So now you have a situation of high demand and higher prices. Perfume is a product that is easy to resell online, on social and even in parking lots from the back of a car. It can even be shipped to foreign countries. It's a difficult situation that has put a lot of employees and customers at risk. Industry executives are currently brainstorming to find the best solution to the problem. #davelackiebeauty
Following the global success of collector lipstick Following the global success of collector lipstick cases, beauty brands are extending the theme into foundation and powder compacts. It’s one of the biggest beauty trends for autumn 2025. Thanks to refillable compact technology, makeup companies are now able to design the most opulent and artistic compact cases that are a vision to behold. Guerlain just unveiled its Parure Gold Cushion cases and they are truly beautiful – tortoise shell designs, Swarovski crystals, etc. And designer shoe brand Christian Louboutin has launched his Teint Fétiche Refillable Case adorned with gold thread, beads and fabric accents in the shape of a coat-of-arms or emblem. It’s a work of art. What I love it is that it makes the experience of applying makeup even more special. #davelackiebeauty
Artistry makeup brand @smashbox has just launched Artistry makeup brand @smashbox has just launched (today) one of the world’s easiest-to-use eyeshadow sticks. Always On Eye Shadow Stick is a high-performance shadow with a precision tip that effortlessly glides on to shape, define and line the eye. It promises no smudging or dragging. Choose a barely-there neutral color or a dramatic vibrant hue. Created, testing and photographed at Smashbox Studio. Available in 8 shades on the brand’s own website. I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing @davisfactor, co-founder of Smashbox, several times and he is a perfectionist when it comes to creating makeup. Not only is he a world-class photographer, but a truly nice guy. I wish him all the best with this launch. #davelackiebeauty #smashbox #eyeshadowstick
Ask any world-class perfumer what inspires them mo Ask any world-class perfumer what inspires them most and they will tell you it is flowers. There is something magical about essential oils and accords that spurs their imagination and creativity. Guerlain’s Thierry Wasser, the brand’s master perfumer, explained to me that floral essential oils have a soul, a personality that can’t be replicated in labs. They bring a character, a life essence to any perfume composition. Smell any of Guerlain’s bespoke perfumes and you’ll understand what he is saying.

One of my favourite floral books that is guaranteed to inspire you is Erin Benzakein’s A Year in Flowers, a gorgeous coffee table book that celebrates blooms throughout the year. You can almost smell the honeysuckle and rose blossoms in her arrangements. Beautifully done. #davelackiebeauty
When I first started travelling to Europe on beaut When I first started travelling to Europe on beauty editor press trips, I noticed something about the best-dressed businessmen, particularly in Italy. They all wore the same fragrance: Acqua di Parma’s Colonia fragrance. It was almost like an insider club of some sort. The iconic citrus fragrance, created in 1916, layers notes of Sicilian citrus, rosemary, lavender, lemon verbena, white musk, Bulgarian rose, sandalwood, patchouli and musk. It’s refined and elegant.

If you want to experience this timeless scent, the Italian brand offers a Cube candle collection that can create the most incredible ambience in any room. Each candle promises 60 hours of burning time, but it is so beautiful you may want to use it as home décor. Available at Holts in Canada. #davelackiebeauty
MAC Cosmetics has launched one of the most fun mak MAC Cosmetics has launched one of the most fun makeup products of 2025: its Lip Glazer Glossy Lip Liner. It’s a soft shiny lip liner that lines, fills and visibly volumizes for fuller-looking lips – all in one easy glide. What I love about it is the versatility of the formula. You can use it to line lips as the name entails. But you can fill in the entire lip area if you want and use it as a lip gloss. Pair it with a matte lip colour and you can design some really interesting makeup looks that contrast shiny and matte textures. You can even use one shade on the top lip and one on the bottom. This is a really creative product. Congrats, @maccosmeticscanada Love it. Available in eight shades. #davelackiebeauty
