Choupette Lagerfeld

Shu uemura’s holiday collection is always a visual feast for the eyes. The edgy Japanese makeup brand best known for crafting false lashes for the likes of Madonna and for its cleansing oils, usually teams up with a cutting-edge photographer or artist for eye-popping packaging. It’s always joyful and lively. For holiday 2014, the brand has once again collaborated with Karl Lagerfeld, but this time with his infamous cat, Choupette. The “Shupette by Karl 
Lagerfeld for shu uemura” collection features images of the white Siamese cat on 17 beauty items including furry eyelashes, a silver makeup train case nail lacquer and drawing pencils that boast tiny paw prints. The ad campaign was shot by Lagerfeld himself.

According to WWD, model Baptiste Giabiconi asked Karl to cat sit Choupette over the Christmas holidays in 2011. He refused to give her back, and she’s been a loyal companion to the designer every since. She sits beside Lagerfeld as he hand-colours his fashion illustrations using shu uemura makeup as he’s done for more than 20 years.

The partnership with Lagerfeld’s cat is also a savvy social media move. Remarkably, the Twitter handle @ChoupettesDiary has 41,000 followers. She’s a social media sensation. Expect Choupette to be tweeting her favourite beauty tips and Shu products leading up to Christmas.
