Fans of niche perfumery brand Le Labo will be happ Fans of niche perfumery brand Le Labo will be happy to learn there is a new addition to the brand’s classic collection. Violette 30 is an homage to the white violet flower, an amber-floral fragrance for her or him that opens with aldehydic brightness alongside violet and rose. What’s interesting is the addition of warm, spicy notes such as saffron, cumin and incense creating a contrast to the floral ingredients. The white tea helps smooth the impression. The dry down features a resinous, woody character thanks to cedar, guaiac wood, amber and patchouli. Skillfully blended. #davelackiebeauty #lelaboviolette30 #lelabo

Fans of Clarins’ award-winning Extra-Firming Cream Fans of Clarins’ award-winning Extra-Firming Cream will be excited to learn there is a new formulation that contains SPF 15 while maintaining the fresh, light, non-sticky texture. This is actually really difficult to do in the labs. SPF is notoriously challenging to work with in skincare formulation when trying to create a light texture. Clarins has achieved it. This cream works to re-densify the skin, smooths wrinkles, evens out the complexion and deeply hydrates. What makes it extra special is it reduces the effects of hormonal changes related to age, particularly those in menopause thanks to organic harungana extract and organic gorse. These plant extracts have been proven to effectively address all these concerns. Just remember with a product like this to use it daily and give it time to show best results. You’ll want to give it eight weeks of daily use to really work its magic. #davelackiebeauty @clarinscanada #clarins #skincare
Such a great discussion this morning with @annette Such a great discussion this morning with @annette.hamm about sensitive skin. Here's some helpful info:

Sensitive skin is the occurrence of unpleasant skin reactions in response to stimuli that normally should not provoke these sensations. Hyper-reactive skin can cause sensations like burning, stinging, tingling, itching, prickling sensations or tightness, often accompanied by redness, inflammation or dryness. Sensitive skin is caused by weakened skin barrier that allows irritants to enter and moisture to escape. The skin condition is frequently triggered by cosmetics, sun exposure, environmental factors (heat/cold) and stress.

If you suffer from sensitive skin, try these tips:
Moisturize: sensitive skin can often be caused by dryness, which reduces the skin’s ability to deal with external factors. Hydrating your skin well can give it more ability to deal with sensitivity by supporting the skin barrier.
Use minimal products with fewer ingredients
Patch test: always test a new product on a small area
Ask a pharmacist if you have a question about any ingredients in a product
Avoid irritants: choose fragrance-free and hypoallergenic formulas
Strengthen skin barrier: use hydrating, gentle products to repair the skin’s protective layer

Here is what skincare testing terms mean:
Hypoallegernic – means a product is designed to cause fewer allergic reactions compared to others.
Allergy tested – a diagnostic procedure, usually a skin prick, patch or blood test, used to identify specific substances (allergens) that cause immune system reaction
Ophthalmologist tested – means a cosmetic product has been evaluated by a medical eye doctor to ensure it is safe, non-irritating and compatible with the delicate eye area.
Fragrance free – means the product does not contain added scents, whether synthetic or natural (like essential oils)
Non-comedogenic – means the skincare product is specially formulated not to cause blocked pores.
Dermatologist tested – means a product was tested on human skin under the supervision of a dermatologist to check for potential irritation, allergy or safety issues. #davelackiebeauty #sensitiveskin

It was this region where consumer starting asking for longer-lasting, stronger fragrances. Gen Z isn’t afraid to invest in a good-quality fragrance, but they want it to last all day and all night. Fragrance houses and fashion designer brands responding immediately by composing ultra-concentrated elixirs, eaux des parfums intense and parfum editions. The essential oil concentration in these scents went from 15% in the eau de toilette to 28% in the elixirs. One spritz of these fragrances lasts about 8 hours.

When I was editor of Cosmetics magazine, I had the When I was editor of Cosmetics magazine, I had the opportunity to visit many research and development centres around the world – for skincare, fragrance, makeup and haircare. What was fascinating to learn was the amount of science that goes into every new formula. Teams of scientists pull technology from a diverse range of industries to create even more effective products. I had no idea that hair companies work with the world’s top fragrance corporations to blend the scents for their styling products. They even work with leading light optic firms to better understand how to develop light-catching ingredient.

John Frieda, the salon-inspired hair care brand, is one such company. It’s new Frizz Ease Infinite Smooth collection taps the latest science to create hair that is 14x smoother with 72-hour humidity protection. There is a shampoo, smoothing treatment, conditioner and salon blow-out spray. #davelackiebeauty
