YSL’s Summer Beauty Tips
When it comes to beauty seasons, summer is the one time of year when you can really experiment with colour, texture and effects and you’ll see that with YSL’s best summer beauty tips. Those couple of weeks of summer vacation away from the office and busy schedule is the perfect time to try new hues. I know of one international makeup artist who tries out new vibrant shades with his friends while vacationing in the south of France. He says women need to remember that makeup is supposed to be fun. It’s important to play with shades that appeal to you.
Tom Pecheux, YSL Beauty’s Creative Director of Makeup adheres to this philosophy. Here, he gives us some pro tips for flawless summer beauty and an insider look at creating the YSL summer look “For me, there is nothing more beautiful than nature, it’s the most timeless of luxuries. Maybe because I spend most of my time in cities, but when you suddenly arrive in a place that’s all about green, it’s like heaven!” he says. “I often think of Mr Saint Laurent’s garden in Marrakech – it is a tropical haven. So I found myself thinking of the concept of escape, paradise, amidst jungle or lush vegetation. I’m really pleased with this collection because I feel it entirely captures that mood.”
When it comes to summer makeup, he gets one question more than any other: bronzing. “Oh I live for bronzing! It’s the answer for a sad day, for a sad mood, for a sad face! And the beauty of this particular bronzer is that it’s so sheer. It suits all skin tones from very pale to very dark. Everyone can benefit from having a little bronzer, especially if they haven’t been exposed to the sun for a while. If you’re applying it to the whole face, I would suggest taking a pretty large brush, not quite as big as a powder brush. Dust it with powder and start your application over the cheeks, sweeping across the nose, and still without adding any extra powder, continue with the leftovers of the powder by brushing it on your forehead, then your chin, then your neck – just to balance it out.”
He says if you only apply bronzer on your cheeks, it will look fake. The idea is not to use it as a blush, but to accentuate cheeks, forehead, chin, nose and neck. “If you apply too much, the best way to take it off is to make sure the palms of your hands are dry and just pass your hand all over your face. Somehow it works because it takes off any excess but leaves enough on your face. But it only works if your hands are very dry – if not, you will be left with patches.” He says that if you’ve applied too much and the hand-trick doesn’t work, add a very thin layer of foundation on top of your powder and it will even out your complexion.
Want to update your beauty look for summer? Add a pop of orange on the lips. “When the sun comes out and the weather warms up, orange is so easy to wear.” It’s nice alternative to red and looks beautiful with tanned skin.
Of course, a bold orange lip looks even more beautiful with a striking eye design. And a waterproof eye pencil is a must-have. “I like to vary the shades – black is great when worn on the top eyelid, and juxtaposed with the green or burgundy under the eyelids. You can even mix them to create your own shade. The texture of the pencil is creamier than the eyeshadow, so it gives a very graphic definition especially when worn close to the lash line. It really is the best way to frame your eyes.”
Don’t forget the summer pedicure if you are going to be vacationing by the pool or enjoying cocktails on the patio. “I like to think of these nail lacquers as being worn most playfully on the toes because they’re so bright. That said, the green is very chic for finger nails! For summer, these shades are such a great look.”
Whatever products and shades you choose for summer, be sure to have fun. Play with colours you might not normally try. You might discover a colour that really flatters your skin tone and personal style.
