Kiehl’s supports Atlantic Puffins!

New York-based apothecary brand Kiehl’s is donating 100% of net proceeds of a Limited Edition Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado to the Canadian Wildlife Federation to protect the fragile Atlantic Puffin population along the East Coast. Sales from this cult product will be used by Kiehl’s to symbolically adopt 300 puffins as part of the CWF Adopt a Species program. The funds will be used to support research to better understand the threats facing Canada’s at-risk seabirds and ensure their habitat is conserved.

Launched in 2009, the Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado quickly became a customer favourite. The thick, creamy preparation helps keep the delicate skin around the eye area well hydrated. Fatty acids naturally found in Avocado oil are superbly rich and act as effective moisturizers. Additionally, they provide a natural and gentle source of Vitamin A. Shea butter in the formula works as a conditioning agent and provides further moisturization.

What’s unique about this product is that is has a two-part structure for dual hydration. Upon application, the cream feels buttery on skin. Gently blending the formula with the tip of your finger bursts a barrier so that water is released into the skin. You’ll feel a refreshing sensation when this happens. The texture also allows the cream to hold its place in the delicate under-eye area so it absorbs and doesn’t migrate into the eyes. It’s colourant and fragrance-free so it won’t irritate eyes. It can be used day or night.

The limited edition product boasts a unique label of puffins perched on a seaside cliff. It’s the work of renowned Canadian artist Robert Bateman and is entitled “Bright Day – Atlantic Puffins.” He’s one of the country’s finest artists and is known for his commitment to ecology and conservation.

atlantic puffinAtlantic Puffins spend much of their time at sea, swimming and diving for small fish, their favourite food. They are much better at swimming than flying. You’ll notice frequent Puffin crash landings if you see them in their natural habitat. They are best known for their vibrant appearance during mating season. Their bills become vivid orange, blue and yellow in colour. When breeding season ends, they shed these colourful bill plates.

They are beautiful birds. We went to Skomer Island off the coast of Wales to see them but were two weeks too late 🙁

I love the idea very much. More needs to be done to help our furry & feathered friends. Huge props to Kiehl’s for doing so.

Great idea. I’m embarrassed to admit that I didn’t know there was puffins in Canada, let alone that they are threatened.

I am a big fan of Kiehl’s products and it is always nice to see such a big skincare company adopt such a charitable cause. I have a special place in my heart for wildlife (specifically anything that helps birds) since my grandfather was an avid bird watcher and bird carver. I have been a fan of the Creamy Eye Treatment since I bought my first tub this past December. I have been trying to get my mom to buy this product for a while now and if I win I would “share my Kiehl’s love” and give her the prize.

I am going to buy this eye cream–being from NL I have a special fondness for puffins. This will be my first Kiehls purchase. Just goes to show there is a benefit for large companies if they support the environment.

I love it when companies are environmentally responsible and support conservation and Kiehl’s definitely does a great job. Plus, could puffins be any cuter? Such a great cause and super cute packaging!

Oh Wow, I just finished squealing over the adorable puffins! What do I think? I think this Adopt a Species program is brilliant! In terms of the partnership with Kiehl’s I think it’s clever. Their Avocado Eye Cream is a cult product for the company, which is also historic, so I like the idea of treatment for puffy eyes during allergy season helping puffins, which are just the cutest. The packaging is cute too. Even if I don’t win, I’m totally buying these for gifts

I love almost anything in this Brand. I think it is always wonderful when companies reach out and adopt 300 Puffins. Such beautiful birds. The adoption funds will be used to support research projects to help better understand threats facing Canada’s at-risk seabirds and ensure their habitat is conserved through the CFW Endangered Species program. Love it!!

It’s always great to see a brand reaching out and helping a species in need. Glad that the proceeds of a useful product will go towards research on 300 puffins. I’ve had the opportunity to test out this eye cream and it feels amazing on your skin. It’s even cuter now that the puffins are featured 🙂
