Is Power Fabric Armani’s best foundation yet?

Giorgio Armani has quietly made a name for itself in foundation formulas. He’s used leading-edge technology to create light-as-air foundations with optic technology to create a healthy glow. His Luminous Silk Foundation is beloved by thousands of beauty enthusiasts. Well, make room on your beauty vanity for a new addition: Power Fabric Foundation. This is a long-wear liquid foundation that pairs high coverage with a luminous, lightweight second skin finish. My criticism with longwear foundations in the past is they can quickly look cakey or mask-like. This new formula does away with that.

Mr. Armani chose the name Power Fabric to reference his signature fashion collection. He’s known for luxurious wool-cashmere blend fabrics that are spun in Italy’s finest mills. And he designs jackets and suits for women that make them feel confident, successful, modern and elegant. He’s not interested in trends. His goal is to craft timeless pieces that work in all situations.

With that image as his springboard, Armani set out to develop a foundation with the same characteristics. He wanted a foundation that weightlessly concealed imperfections, left an even and flawless complexion and lasted throughout the day and night. It had to dress the skin, enhance facial features and erase signs of fatigue.

I’ve worked with the Armani team in Milan before and I can tell you that Giorgio is demanding, uncompromising and will absolutely not put his name on a product until it is perfect in his mind. He will send a product back again and again and again. I’ve seen it firsthand. So when he makes this kind of statement, you know he’s completely happy with the quality and performance.

The science behind the product is interesting. Inspired by the Eye Tint Liquid Eyeshadow, Power Fabric contains a suspension of pigments, which guarantees purity and boldness of colour. To ensure the product lasts, three groups of raw materials were used. Non-volatile solvents composed of oils guarantee comfortable application. Semi-volatile solvents facilitate application and provide optimal colour rendering and volatile solvent ensure makeup is long-wearing. I love that it contains SPF 25 with both UVA and UVB protection. There are 15 shades to choose form.

“As a makeup artist, the idea of combining a long-lasting foundation with an invisible finish seemed like an oxymoron, so trying Power Fabric in the studio, where skin needs constant retouching under the hot lights and yet still needs to look perfect and fresh after many hours of shooting, was the perfect testing ground. I was impressed,” says Linda Cantello, Giorgio Armani International Makeup Artist.
