DSquared2 celebrates the woody scent trend

DSquared2, Canadian brothers Dean and Dan Caten have created one of the hottest fashion brands in Italy. The duo regularly design tour wardrobes for leading pop stars and actors and pop up on all the celebrity party blogs. This month, the pair celebrate their Canadian heritage with a pair of woody fragrances. Here the story behind the scents:

Hometown: The designers grew up in Toronto, Canada before moving to Milan to build their fashion empire.

Approach: reimagine woody notes for a new generation of fragrance enthusiast

Award: GQ USA dubbed the duo “The Best Breakthrough Design Team” of 2003. They also received a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2009.

Fun fact: When Dean and Dan moved to Milan, they worked for the house of Gianni Versace and denim brand Diesel before launching their own brand (which Diesel helped fund).

Madonna: In 2000, Madonna commissioned the pair to design more than 150 pieces for her Drowned World Tour.

Global reach: DSquared2 has stores in Hong Kong, London, Milan, Paris, Singapore, New York, Los Angeles and Madrid.

Celebrity fans: Britney Spears, Madonna, Ricky Martin, Justin Timberlake

Musical angle: Dean and Dan host their own radio show on “Dean and Dan: Style in Stereo” on the Sirius XM network.

Notes: Calabrian bergamot, lemon from Sicily, cardamom, vetiver, ambrox, mandarin, ginger, violet leaves, white woods

Base notes: A modern blend of white woods brings a light character to the deep personality of vetiver. It’s this contrast that gives the scent a modern feel.
