October 28, 2016 at 10:53 amI’ve got my eye on the Guerlain Terra India. It’s such a pretty colour. It’d definitely going onto m6 family gift list this year……..
In our family, we do gift giving in a slightly different manner.
Before the festive season begins……. so basically by the end of this month. Every family member has to create their own individual family gift list.
The adults makes a list of 3 to 5 items that he/she really wants.
The children’s list however has 15 to 20 items. Most of these are items the children themselves really really want like toys, games ect…. while others are essentials but special ones like fancy pair of shoes or a top they especially like.
These lists are called “FAMILY WISHES”
The list is composed of products from a wide price range. Items do not have to be physical, they could also be an experience, like a voucher for a massage or bungee jumping.
Once everyone has finalised the stuff they want, it has to written in descending order with the thing most wanted first,
then the next,
then the next,
then the next…..
and so on until the last item which is the: “i would like this thing, but not as much as the items above!.!” which is on the last line of that individuals FAMILY WISHES.
Next to Each item, details must be recorded with a rough price range, where the item can be purchased, and all specifics, eg size, color ect…..
All lists are shared BUT an individual is not allowed to see their own list!!!
As am item is purchased the person who bought it must remove it off the list so that no one else buys a second one.
This allows for the opening of gifts to still be a bit of a surprise as one doesn’t know which items from their list was actually bought.
This system works very well for our family. It allows a wide range of prices so people can spend what they can afford,
At the same time it ensures the person who is receiving the gifts: firstly get things and stuff that they want and will therefore really like and actually use as opposed to just getting a gift that the individual will never use or get rid of by either giving it away or selling it because A)they don’t like it
B)it does not suit them
C)they are allergic to it.
Also the system of updating the list makes sure that no one ends up getting more of one of the same item as the family already knows that that particular item has already been purchased so they can rather buy something else.
When it comes to an individual maybe wanting it needing a larger pricey item for example my sister NEEDED a fridge the one year and so it was on her list. Obviously that is a big ticket item, and yo br h9nest my sister did n9t really exoect that anyone would have bought it. She put it on her wish list as a joke.
Hoever once we knew that she needee the FRIDGE, we discussed and agreed that everyone would put her present money together and get the fridge she wanted. In the end that year she recieved a new fridge as well two other smaller gifts from her list (smaller as compared to the fridge) due to the fact that we managed to get the amount needed for the fridge together and so two family members did not have to contribute do instead got her items from her list.
It was really amazing to surprise her that way. no one ended up spending more than they normally do and what they could afford, and sister got something that she needed to live.
Lol. Anyways this has gone so off topic. This year on my wish list I have the bobbi brown mini lipsticks and now this Guerlain Terra Indian. Thank you for showing us all the awesome products Dave.
