For the past couple of years, we’ve seen a handful of fragrance brands come up with custom blend boxes – where customers and mix and match scents and notes to create their own blends. Los Angeles-based Memoire Liquide and Canada’s The 7 Virtues Fragrance Company have both launched successful sets. This has been a particularly popular service at select Barney’s stores and Fred Segal. This spring French Couture House Givenchy introduces a new twist on the theme: a scent enhancer. Here’s how it works. You buy the Angel or Demon Le Parfum set that contains a tiny second bottle called the “son accord illicite”. You can wear the popular Angel or Demon scent as you normally would on the pulse points. But for an evening event or date, you add one drop of the accord illicite enhancer. It instantly adds sex appeal and creates a more prominent scent trail. That means when you walk through a crowd or room, your fragrance will be more prominent. It’s a scent trick that chic Parisienne women have known for years. Givenchy calls it “instant seduction”.
This new way of experiencing fragrance is part of Givenchy’s Art of Perfumery, the heritage and knowledge of blending exquisite scents.
On its own, Angel or Demon is an innocent Floriental Woody scent with notes of sambac jasmine, musk and fine leather accord.
But add a drop of the accord which includes a few very highly qualitative raw materials: patchouli, fine leather, white musk and amber, and the scents becomes much sexier. Simply add one drop of the accord over the parfum on one of your pulse points.
Expect to see more of this trend in the coming 12 months. Women and men love to customize their fragrances. This is evident with the success of niche fragrance houses of late. You’ll soon be able to become your own perfumer.
The giveaway: Congrats to Sarah T from Oregon. I drew her name at random from below. She won a set!

June 1, 2015 at 5:39 pmWith most of my perfumes during the Spring and Summer I mix with white musk to lighten them so not so heavy in these warm and humid months. I want people around me to notice the scent but not be overwhelmed or enveloped by it as some perfumes do that in the heat.

June 1, 2015 at 5:28 pmThat sounds like an amazing concept which I’d definitly try! It would be much easier to just enhance the scent with a few drops, then spray all over again. Also, this scent has been on my wishlist for ages.. so please count me in! ^_^ Good luck everybody, and thank you so much Davie for sharing this with us!

June 1, 2015 at 5:24 pmThis is such a neat concept! I’ve always tried to purchase fragrances that offer a lotion as well to hold the scent, but this way you can experient with the scent and how you’re feeling on the day. I would definitely love to use (and win!) this!)

June 1, 2015 at 5:21 pmI think this is a very interesting concept. Being able to wear perfume regularly and then adding the extra drop of accord in the evening if you’re going out to enhance the smell. The idea is great if you’re going out for the evening and don’t want to bring a bottle of perfume with you but just bringing the accord to ‘refreshen’ . Would love to try this!
