Guerlain x Natalia VodianovaFor holiday 2016, you could say that Guerlain’s luxe makeup collection is a family affair of sorts. Supermodel Natalia Vodianova, the face of Guerlain for almost a decade, has collaborated with Olivier Echaudemaison, Creative Director of Makeup on a special limited edition collection of products. The pair share a close friendship which is evident in the behind-the-scenes photos. This is the first time Natalia has worked on the actual shades and the inspiration was the iconic Shalimar fragrance. Here’s the wonderful results of this partnership.

Backstory: Ask Guerlain Makeup Creative Director Olivier Echaudemaison about Natalia Vodianova and he instantly lights up. “Oh, I love her! She is wonderful.” It’s a close relationship that has developed over the past years as Natalia has starred in all the Guerlain global ad campaigns. This is her first makeup collection.

The charity: A portion of the profits from the sale of this collection will benefit the Naked Heart Foundation created by Natalia Vodianova

The quote: “I wanted to name my first collection Shalimar, in homage to the fragrance that I have been the face of for eight years and that symbolizes my link to Guerlain. This new collaboration with Guerlain is based on mutual trust. I have known Olivier since I started out; he’s someone very important to me and a very dear friend. We worked together with the whole development team for a year on this project. I loved working on the textures and colours and packaging and design. It’s very exciting to see your ideas and wishes take shape and be able to share what you have created with women around the world,” says Vodianova

The inspiration: “I was inspired in the choice of colours by precious metals and stones: gold and sapphire. For KissKiss lipstick, I chose a warm and intense fuchsia shade like Indian pigments.

“In addition to face and hair, I like to apply this powder to the back of my hands and on my wrists. So when I move, a subtle scent emerges,” explains Natalia.

Meteorites Perles de Legende, $79

“I specifically chose these three colours of pearls because they remind me of the colours of the mosaics in the Indian palaces. The pink pearls revive the natural colour of the cheeks and the freshness of the complexion; blue pearls correct irregularities of the skin and dark circles; and the gold pearls warm and illuminate cheekbones,” says Natalia.

“My application advice: the 3-Gesture technique invented by Olivier Echaudemaison,” says Vodianova. “Draw a ‘3’ on each side of your face, from the forehead to the cheeks and to the chin following the facial contour, and smoothing it down along the neck.”
