Givenchy’s Power of Colour Collection
One of the most exciting makeup brands is best known for its red carpet-worthy gowns and blockbuster fragrances. Few people know that French luxury brand Givenchy even has a makeup collection. But it would be well worth your time to discover this innovative and forward-thinking collection. I had the privilege of interviewing Nicholas Degennes, creative director of Givenchy makeup years ago when he made a quick visit to Toronto for a Sephora press event. He was so passionate and enthusiastic about his creations that he carried a little notebook with him everywhere he want to write down any ideas he spotted or came up with for new products. I would say that of all the makeup artists I’ve interviewed, he was most focused on the future of beauty: formulas, textures, treatments, colours. He’s a true visionary.
Givenchy spring 2019
So after many years of flying under the radar, Givenchy makeup is having its moment. The buzz-worthy collections are selling out almost overnight in Asia and consumers are snapping up the ultra lightweight powders in particular. Expect this brand to make waves in 2019. Here’s a first look at the new “Power of Colour” Collection.
Givenchy Le Makeup Creative Director, Nicholas Degennes
“To leave the winter gloom behind, there’s nothing like a good dose of ‘color therapy’ – an elixir of youth inspired by all the colours of the rainbow. It’s time to recharge your batteries with the power of colour, an optimistic and proud vision of a 2019 bursting with energy. An urgent remedy to give yourself a healthy boost and wake up with a ‘pop attitude’. Crushed candies for a psychedelic Spring Break,” says Degennes. Here is how he looks at the colours in the collection:
Blue: for dreams, wisdom and freshness
Red: for its paradoxes, love/rage, sensuality/sexuality
Green: for luck and hope
Orange: for energy, creativity and optimism
Purple: for gentleness, spirituality and melancholy
Pink: for youthfulness and romanticism
With this is mind, here is what the artist developed:
Prisme Blush
Limited Edition & catalogue shade
The positive therapy starts with this blush, customized with a gradient of colours ranging from white to red.
Prisme Blush No. 10 Power
This limited edition shade exudes the energy of orange. The creamy, light and long-lasting formula boasts particle atomisation technique. Four shades are featured in a pair of two-toned harmonies. The darker, matte shade is ultra-pigmented. The lighter version is a pearlescent highlighter offering an almost wet effect, which softens the strongest colour or brings a radiant glow when the two shades are combined.
Prisme Blush No.2 Love
This medley of soft pinks will give you a romantic, healthy glow.
Dual Liners:
This may be the easiest eyeliner/shadow to apply. The thin line is used as an eyeliner and the larger as shadow. One single, ultra-gliding motion makes for extra easy application. Two distinct shades, which ensure structuring power, enhance the colour of the iris and brighten the eyelid when juxtaposed. The creamy texture guarantees lasting hold while the intensity of the colours evokes the electro-pop inspiration.
Dual Liner No. 3 Dynamic
Dual Liner No. 4 Passionate
Le Rouge No 332 Fearless
This light, sculpting formula plumps up lips with a single stroke and adds moisture thanks to microspheres of hyaluronic acid.
Le Rose Perfecto No. 5 Spirited
Mass-dyed in orange, this product reacts to the lips’ pH to offer a personalized colour nuance thanks to its eosin-based formula.
Le Vernis No. 12 Strong
This blue hue of the night sky is the perfect counterpoint to the eye-popping lip and eye colours.
