FEED + Clarins: Of all the charitable initiatives I’ve written about over the past decade or so, the FEED partnership with Clarins is one of my favourites. I spoke with Christian Courtin-Clarins, President of the Supervisory Board of the Clarins Group, in New York recently and he says it is one of his proudest collaborations. He actually traveled with Lauren Bush Lauren to Guatemala to see how the charity was providing meals for school children. “This is about sustainable beauty in human terms,” he told me. “We have to help find a way to support communities with the basics such as food and shelter. Then we need to find them jobs that respect nature while providing for their families.” That is why the Clarins brand has long-term partnerships with farmers around the world. They work to support the entire communities where the farmers grow the flowers and plants for the Clarins products.
“I love how we’ve turned a ‘gift with purchase’ that is a common practice in the beauty world into a ‘gift with purpose’. Each gift provides 10 school meals to children in need around the world. This is an investment in their future.” He says that he is immensely impressed with Lauren. “Here is a woman of incredible wealth and position. She doesn’t need to work. She could just shop and socialize with her friends. But Lauren is so passionate and works tirelessly to feed these children. She’s working so hard to make the world a better place.”
I had the opportunity to meet Lauren at a Clarins’ charity dinner in New York and she’s humble and sweet. You can tell she cares about this charity and the work she does for it. She was 8 months pregnant when I met her and she was determined to attend this special dinner.
Watch for Clarins’ 2016 edition of the FEED “gift with purpose” program towards the end of the year. You can learn more about FEED at www.feedprojects.com
Background:
The charity: FEED
Background: founded in 2007 by Lauren Bush Lauren, the mission of the organization was to “create good products that help feed the world.” As a World Food Programme (WFP) Honourary Student Spokesperson, Lauren visited Africa, Asia and Latin America where she was taken with the plight of so many people living in poverty. She was particularly inspired by WFP’s School Feeding program, which feeds and educates hungry children.
The Clarins partnership: Since 2011, Clarins has participated by offering beauty bags and purses that raise funds to feed hungry children. The Courtin-Clarins family has always been deeply committed to charitable causes. And this charity touched their hearts.
The success: By the end of 2013, FEED provided more than 3.5 million meals to needy children. Thanks to the Clarins partnership, an additional 1.4 million meals will be offered.
The bag: Each FEED 10 bag represents ten school meals that will be provided to children in need globally. The bag itself is crafted from natural jute burlap. It’s lightweight and lined in cotton.
The offer: Make a $75 Clarins purchase at a Hudson’s Bay store and receive a FEED bag containing two skincare samples and a book mark explaining how the charity operates. (offer is made towards the end of each year and is valid while supplies last).
The motto: Feed your skin, FEED your soul
