Dior’s State of Gold! Dior Creative and Image Director, Peter Philips is tweaking the traditional gold and red colour story with iconic grey for a sultry and luxurious holiday makeup collection. He adds a sheen of platinum with a hint of fuchsia to give the look a youthful energy. You’ll find that in the Dior Vernis shades as well: deep purple, copper and grey-green. It is quintessentially French and beautifully done.
Here is the official press release description: “Outside, the electric night pulses to a festive beat. Drawn to the lure of the city lights, a woman with a magnetic aura elegantly radiates a newfound glow and she climbs the step to a chic holiday party.” Philips has brought incredible innovation and unexpected colour pairings during his short tenure at Dior so far. He’s stayed true to the Dior heritage, but given the makeup a fresh turn. I’m so impressed with what he’s done. A friend of mine was a beauty director in Paris for many years and she says he is the nicest makeup artist. He always answers questions backstage after a fashion show and is available for interviews.
You’ll notice that lipsticks are reinvented for holiday 2015. Most Christmas collections feature high-shine lipsticks, but Philips decided to make his matte. I think it makes them much more wearable for a wider range of women. Peter calls is a “Kiss of Velvet”.
Diorific Mat, the first easy-wearing matte lipstick, pairs the tradition of a powdery, long-lasting finish with an exceptionally light and seamless film.
This formula is finer, sheerer, less opaque in composition and boasts an innovative powder for smooth colour. Three nourishing oils pack moisturizing power.
Magnetic Waves: Ivory, deep purple and grey-green sparkle in contrast to cool metal. Choose from two collector 5 Couleurs palettes. Eternal Gold offers a pale golden white shimmer alongside purple taupe, glittering black, celestial beige and a soft grey-green highlighter.
Blazing Gold offers a creamy nude with frosted chestnut, scintillating charcoal, and bold claret red.
Diorific Vernis transforms nails into manicured jewels. “State of Gold” nail varnish contains shimmering platinum and gold glitter. You simply apply to nails like jewels by gently tapping with the brush.
There are four party-ready shades: Mystere, a deep plum;
Passion, a fiery red;
Gris-Or, platinum/pink gold; and Secret, a baby pink.
Diorshow Fusion Mono in Clair de Lune offers a glint of incandescent metal to the eyes. “Blazing” is a pink-tinged amber shade.
Game of Mirrors: Complete your look with your choice of mirror-shine gloss in a beige with metallic shimmer or a claret red.
The “State of Gold” collection is on Dior counters now. But be quick if you see something you particularly like. It does sell out.
