My sister knew that going to Vegas was the #1 thing on my bucket list; I never got to travel raising my kids as my son has special needs. She arranged to take me to Vegas as my Christmas gift and 40th birthday gift & it was the most wonderful thing anyone has done for me! I have the best memories from my first trip outside of Canada!

This is a hard question to admit in public, although I am not shy about my recovery in person. Thinking about this made me cry and grateful for life today. The nicest thing anyone has done for me was from my family at Christmas. They kept the tree up until I came home to unwrap the gifts they had bought me. I am a recovering addict and have been clean since 2-23-16. I was at Christmas for a whole hour in 2015 and never stuck around. Never opened a gift or ate anything. I was ashamed and embarrassed because I couldn’t quit and had been an addict for 12 years. They were praying for me and kept the tree up until I came home, clean. I didn’t make it home until March of 2016 and opened the artist easel that I still use today. I have been clean ever since. Thanks for the reminder. Time flies and you tend to forget those little things. Win or not, this was worth it.

The nicest thing that someone has done for me at Christmas is invite me out to dinner. I didn’t have any family around at the time, and I would have been alone.

My grandparents took my sister and I in 2 weeks before Christmas 1999. I was 11 years old. They ended up having full custody by February 2000. That first Christmas with them they worked together to pull off the Christmas of a lifetime. I’ll never forget it.
