Create & customize your own lipstick shades with YSL’s Rouge Sur Mesure device

YSL’s groundbreaking lipstick creator has arrived in Canada and it is truly remarkable.

Named “Rouge Sur Mesure’, the one-of-a-kind device allows you to create and customize your own lipstick colours thanks to YSL’s colour expertise and cutting-edge PERSO technology. It’s as close as you can get to working with a cosmetic scientist inside a makeup laboratory. A complementary app helps guide you through the process of creating your own unique shades and looks.

The device uses packs of cartridge trios (in three colour families) packed with YSL’s creamy velvet lip formula for the possibility to customize over 1,000 shades. It even comes with a sleek lip compact so you can take your signature shades with you wherever you go.

Here’s how it works: First, pair your phone with the App, then choose your cartridges. Slot each one into any of the three holes and click into place. Next, create your colour, experimenting as much as you like by digitally trying it on, using the App. (Yes, you can become your own makeup chemist!) Finally, decide how much lip colour you’d like to make – enough to just test or to wear several times – by selecting your lip size, then clicking the Create button. Using the applicator brush, thoroughly blend the formula, and it’s ready to apply. (The non-porous device is easily cleaned and is designed to be hygienic. It even keeps track of expiry dates of the cartridges)

To get you started, you’ll find 1000 different colour recipes in the Shade Palette on the App. A Shade Match with recognition technology allows you to create a lipstick shade the perfectly matches any photo you take.

“Rouge Sur Mesure took more than five years to develop, with the work and input from dozens of beauty, technological and innovation experts, and features various technological feats, including a patented motor system, of which I’m particularly proud,” explains Guive Balooch, Global Vice President L’Oreal Technology Incubator. “This system is located at the top of the device, which moves and compresses the formula from the cartridges at the base of the machine in an upward motion to the dispensing tray above for clean application. It’s a totally unique feature.” He says the Shade Stylist (as part of the App) is a proprietary algorithm which combines the makeup and colour expertise of YSL makeup artists with AI technology developed by his team. It has more than 20 patents including several for the dispensing system.

YSL’s Rouge Sur Mesure is available in Canada at yslbeauty.ca It retails for $459. Here is the link to check it out.

I would love this if the price ever comes down to a point where I could afford it!

It would be really great to have something like this, but the price is prohibitive for most of us, sadly.

I like the idea of doing this as I do have trouble finding the perfect shade.

Definitely not affordable for everyone but hopefully in the future when more companies are trying to reduce the production of plastic then more technology like this will be in the market to bring the price down

This is an excellent idea. However, the cost is way too much. I have seen another product like this, and it is cheaper and uses the colors red, blue yellow, black & white to make the lipstick.
