Bobbi Brown’s Top 10: “Twenty-five years ago, I started my brand with a simple idea: I wanted women to be who they are. Beauty in the ‘80s wasn’t about authenticity – it was more like putting on a mask. Overpowering colours, heavy makeup looks and cookie-cutter models were the norm. I wanted to give women other options,” says New York Makeup Artist Bobbi Brown. She’s reminiscing on the silver anniversary of her eponymous beauty brand, one that is beloved around the world for flattering neutrals and multi-tasking complexion products.

“The brand started with an edited collection of ten lipsticks. From Salmon to Beige to Brown, the flattering shades stood out from the bright, garish lipsticks that were the trend. We sold out our first day, and the brown-based shades continue to be bestsellers,” she says. “This season, in addition to the ten that put us on the map, we’re featuring 10 luxe lip colours that are fresh takes on the originals.

“When picking a lipstick, I find the most flattering shade for every woman is to go one or two shades darker than your natural lip shade. This gives just enough definition but isn’t too bold. It always works.”

The 10 original Bobbi Brown lipstick shades are: salmon, beige, raisin, brown, rose, pink, orange, blackberry, burnt red and red. These are on Bobbi Brown counters this month.

And the new twists on the classic shades are: bellini, urber beige, bond, Bahama brown, uber rose, Tahiti pink, flame, Imperial red and plum brandy.

Bobbi will be celebrating her anniversary all fall season with limited edition products and colours. “My vision has been the same from the start: BE WHO YOU ARE.
