Best of the Week: Jan 7th, 2015
Each week I review dozens of new makeup, skincare, and fragrance launches. Some offer great quality and interesting technology. But it takes time to really research and sift through all the press files to find the real gems. So here are what I consider to be the most exciting items launching in store this week. All offer good value for money.
- MAC BollyDoll
BollyDoll is the colourful world created by visual artist and singer Amrita Sen, whose illustrious and imaginative illustrations tell the story of a magic land filled with music and art. Her work draws inspiration from Indian prints from the Moghul Era. With her debut MAC accessory collaboration, Sen’s lovingly detailed hand sketches and paintings spring vividly to life in limited-edition illustrated brush kit and coordinating makeup bags.

- Guerlain Blanc de Perle range
This new three-step luxury brightening routine has been a smash hit in Asia. It works on the premise of clarifying, treating and hydrating to diminish dark spots and improve radiance. It works to correct existing dark spots while preventing the formation of new ones. A dedicated potent plant extract protects the skin from oxidative stress caused by the intense metabolic activity of cellular repair during the night.
- Dior Kingdom of Colours Spring 2015 Colour Palette
A midnight blue case reveals ten makeup essentials. Spring’s star palette is stamped with Monsieur Dior’s personal coat of arms, in tribute to the eighteenth century that the couturier so admired. This palette is tailor-made for the face, eyes and lips. Eyes are drawn in shimmering almond green, holographic silver and deep purple, and lined in deepest black. Cheekbones come to life with a hint of coral blush. Lips are dressed in pink, tulip and iridescent pearl.
- Chanel Exclusive Creation Joues Contraste Angelique– Jardin de Chanel
For Spring 2015, the Chanel Makeup Creation Studio takes inspiration from Paris in springtime. This limited edition star palette beautifies the complexion with the rosy shimmers of an evanescent silky powder. Chanel calls it the perfect romantic blush. It’s a blend of delicate and more intense pinks boasting a camellia motif, Coco’s favourite. This will likely become a collector’s item in years to come. It will sell out quickly.
- Clinique Repairwear Sculpting Night Cream
Night cream sales peak in January as frigid temperatures and cold winds require added protection and repair. Clinique introduces a targeted overnight sculpting treatment that helps define facial contours to achieve a more youthful face shape with firm cheeks, a sculpted jawline, and smoother neck and check.
- Estee Lauder Little Black Primer
It’s so simple and genius of an idea. Unlike traditional lash primers that are white, this primer is tinted black so you can use it on its own. It covers and lifts bare lashes so they stay silky black throughout the day and even overnight. As a primer, it’s the optimal mascara base for volume, lift and length. It has a patent-pending formula.
- Dolce & Gabbana Intenso for him
This masculine woody-aromatic fragrance for him boasts notes of basil, cypress, sandalwood, musk and amber. It’s perfect for colder months as it packs a warming effect. The Italian designers have tapped Colin Farrell to be the face of their latest scent. “We are incredibly happy to be working with such a great talent. When we created this fragrance we immediately thought of Colin. He is such the embodiment of male strength and sensuality.”
