Beach Vacation Makeup: Packing for a beach vacation sounds relaxing but it can be a bit challenging on what makeup to pack. You’ll likely be spending hours by the pool and ocean so sunscreen is a must. But you’ll also have patio dinners and cocktails at night. What is the best multi-tasking makeup to bring on vacation that doesn’t look too ‘over-done’?
I asked Shiseido’s pro makeup artist Stephen Sardella to share some insider tips on summer makeup to pack for a beachside getaway!
Dave: To start, how should you approach beach vacation makeup?
Stephen Sardella: Every woman wants to look and feel her very best at the beach. It’s important to customize your make up look so you feel comfortable and it lasts while in the environment.
D.L.: I hear one common request most often: make it easy and quick. How do you do this?
S.S.: Great question Dave. Keep your beach makeup to a minimum, using cream-based products for “easy and quick application”. These are the best multi-tasking products that work well in hot weather.
D.L. Sun protection is a must. Do you apply sunscreen under or over serums and moisturizers?
S.S.: I always apply your sunscreen over serums and moisturizers, as they are designed to protect your skin from harmful rays. Use as your last step.
D.L.: How do you reapply sunscreen when wearing makeup? That is a big challenge.
S.S.: It doesn’t have to be. Your sunscreen can be re-applied over your “base” throughout the day. Use a tinted moisturizer for even coverage, and place a small amount of sunscreen on the palm of your hands and pat onto skin. This will help to ensure not to compromise the coverage. For women who enjoy wearing powder, use one with a built in sunscreen.
D.L.: What 5 essential items should you pack for a beach vacation
S.S.: Here are my five must-haves: Shiseido’s Sun Protection. SPF 50. I recommend to my clients to choose their favourite formulation! Then, I would pack waterproof mascara, cream blush, bronzer, and of course, lip gloss.

D.L.: What are the pitfalls to avoid in summer with makeup?
S.S.: Less is truly more. Choose colours that have a shimmer, that illuminate your skin.
D.L.: How do you control oil and sweating in summer?
S.S.: For some women, an oil-free moisturizer is a great way to control shine. Shiseido’s Blotting Paper is your secret weapon to remove shine and oil on your skin. I find these are a must-have in the summer, in fact all year round.

D.L.: What are your three favourite lip shade colours for summer? I’ve been applying Shiseido Lacquer Gloss on all of my clients this summer. My favorite shades are Baby Doll, In the Flesh and Debut.

D.L.: Any last advice on summer vacation makeup?
Ibuki Quick Fix Mist
S.S.: Keep your skin radiant and luminous by using Shiseido’s Quick Fix Mist. I’m telling you, this product revitalizes your make up, controls oil and feels cool to the skin.

August 31, 2016 at 12:30 pmI agree that there is no need of too much make up for the beach. Especially because of the heat and the strong sun. I like the things you chose to pack. I would make the same choice! Best regards Personly, I think that using makeup at the beach is pointless, but this is a personal choice and everyone have the right to make it. Great article by the way!
