Autumn’s Breakout Catwalk Beauty Product! “Every season, there are one or two products that get used in the majority of shows,” explains MAC Senior Artist Melissa Gibson. “I worked backstage at the London and Milan shows for Fall 2015 and MAC Studio Waterweight Foundation was used in so many shows. It was the clear breakout this season.” Gibson is one of a handful of MAC Senior Artists that work backstage during Fashion Weeks in Milan, London, Paris and New York. She works with the star makeup artists like Val Garland, Tom Pecheux and Lucia Pica who design or (“key” as it is called) the makeup for each fashion presentation.
“The makeup artist who keys the show usually meets with the fashion designer and his or her stylists a couple days before the actual runway show. The process can be very quick if the designer likes what the artist presents. Or it can take days if revisions and tests need to be done,” she says. “Quite often a fashion designer will work with one makeup artist season after season so there will be a trust and understanding between the two.” Michael Kors always works with Dick Page in New York for an example. Once the actual makeup is approved, the artist will create a face chart and instruct all the makeup artists working backstage for that show. It can be very simple or quite complex depending on the show. Gibson says that the DSquared2 show in Milan is the most fun backstage. “It always has this party vibe to it.”
So how does a beauty product become a catwalk trend? “When we arrive in a city, there is always a bag of new products and shades waiting for us at the hotel. These are many of the collections that MAC will launch that season. We bring these products when we meet with the artist who is keying the show and he or she will go through what is new. And each season, they all gravitate to one or two items. For fall, it was Studio WaterWeight Foundation. It was used in so many shows.” (Models at Peter Pilotto, DSquared2, House of Holland, Preen, Mary Katrantzou and Marques’ Almeida wore this foundation.)
WaterWeight is the latest addition to the MAC Studio lineup – an innovative foundation that delivers colour in an ultra-fluid, elastic-gel serum formula. It offers sheer medium coverage that is buildable depending on the look you want. Better yet, it works to blur imperfections such as pores and fine lines. MAC has added Moisture-Fusion Complex to provide immediate and all-day hydration making it perfect for those with dry to combination skin. It’s available in 25 shades.

September 25, 2015 at 11:43 amThis stuff sounds awesome! I need something that blurs fine lines, medium coverage sounds good but hoping it really is buildable because sometimes medium isn’t enough for some of my sun spots… And I’m loving the sound of ‘elastic, gel serum’ and with a Massachusetts USA winter coming, I’ll need all the hydration I can get. Can you believe with all the makeup that I’ve tried, I’ve never tried Mac anything or Nars!?! Hoping to try both soon, but as always, money is an issue!

September 24, 2015 at 5:23 pmI would really like to try Mac’s new foundation. You can decide the coverage you want and it doesn’t sink into wrinkles and lines. Also it has moisture

September 23, 2015 at 11:51 amI think that this foundation would be of great use for daily wear as its lightweight, also this bottle is more convenient than the pumps one as one can take the required amount. Would be easy to applied with the beauty blender sponge.
