I have something special to share with my readers this month! I’m giving away my favourite winter season scent – a warm, spicy scent that is fresh and comforting. It’s from a British niche perfumery brand called Atkinsons which blends fascinating luxe scents with personality and character. Oud Save the King is a standout and worth checking out.

Perfumer is Amandine Clerc-Marie who describes her creation as “the most precious secret of the Orient revealed with an irresistibly English twist.” It captures that idyllic chapter in time when two great civilizations, England and the Orient, were perfectly entwined. This scent in particular was inspired by the dashing Crown Prince Mohammed Ali Ibrahim – a man of elegance and supreme style.

Traditionally blended with patchouli, the signature oud accord in Oud Save the King has been magnificently modernised with Cypriol, a natural ingredient that grows in the foothills of the Himalayas. Cypriol exudes a powerful woodiness that is subtly balanced with watery, leathery facets. Deepened with the precious wood essences of cedar wood from Atlas, Gurjun balm from Indonesia and guaiac wood from Paraguay this accord imparts an incomparable charismatic signature to the fragrance.

Orris root (iris) absolute (a nod to the iris in a gentleman’s boutonniere)

Suede accord

Agarwood (oud)

Traditional ouds are hugely popular in the Middle East. It’s the resin from the agarwood tree that lends that rich, smoky and spicy note to this category of fragrances. But what is exciting to see is the new generation of oud fragrances for him and her. They maintain the warm spicy effect but with a light hand. In this scent, the earl grey tea and bergamot lighten the overall scent nicely. It’s light and warm.

Atkinsons is a renowned British heritage fragrance house, established in London, England, in 1799 by James Atkinson. The brand and its emblematic bear went on to become the official perfumer to the Royal Court of England and to the most aristocratic and exclusive clientele worldwide. Drawing on 200 years of English eccentricity, style and impeccable manners, Atkinsons offers luxurious scents with character. There is always an interesting note or twist to each new creation that gives it personality and a unique point-of-view. From earl grey tea to premium gin to wild rose, these are fragrances that celebrate British culture and style.
