New York fashion designer Anna Sui designs some of the most whimsical and joyful fragrance bottles in modern perfumery. She often draws on butterflies, flower blooms, fairies and unicorns to bring her sunny floral fragrances to life. (She’s also a charming and very sweet person. I’ve interviewed her several times.)

This month sees the debut of Fantasia Pop Surprise, a floral gourmand eau de toilette for her with a twist that is total fun. You’ll notice there are four different colour combinations of bottles – each inspired by 1960s Pop Art. A unicorn sits atop the flacon and a colourful textured cap that reminds me of a cupcake. There is a turquoise/lime green; red/turquoise; purple/red; and pink/yellow combination. Now here is the fun part. You don’t know which coloured bottle you get until you unbox at home. It’s a complete surprise.

Fantasia Pop Surprise EDT is a joyful floral-gourmand scent for her with some fascinating notes:

Top notes: wild raspberry, cassis, jaboticaba (grape-like fruit that grows on trees in Brazil)

Heart notes: jasmine sambac, blue cyclamen

Base notes: cotton candy, ambroxan, driftwood

Time warp to a retro fantasy land, this gourmand fragrance opens with the juicy tanginess from wild raspberry and then delves into sensual jasmine. Nostalgic notes of cotton candy blend with driftwood to form a deeply delicious base.

“When I began to create the fragrance, I was inspired by the iconic 60s colour elements of Andy Warhol’s Pop Art. I created a fragrance that opens with a playful brightness. As it develops, the fragrance evolves into a colourful mix of edible berries and indulgent florals surrounded by a cloud of cotton candy,” explains perfumer Jerome Epinette

What a great way to bring out the child inside of you. Who says unicorns and fairies are only for kids?
