Eight Interesting fall makeup finds: The sheer volume of beauty products that arrive on store shelves in the next eight weeks can be a little overwhelming. Even veteran beauty editors can struggle to make sense of what is launching and when. What I’ve learned over the past decade is that some of the best products get lost or overlooked. Beauty companies rarely invest advertising dollars in makeup launches as the sales are small in comparison to skincare and fragrance. So unless you are carefully looking at ecomm sites and visiting stores, you can miss them.
I’ve had the opportunity to look at all the Fall collections and spotted eight interesting items that I think are really cool. It could be a colour or a formula. But I believe these products are worth a second look.
YSL Mascara Couture Brow
You can thank Cara Delevingne for the global brow trend. YSL Creative Makeup Director Lloyd Simmonds has worked with Cara for years so it is no surprise that he’s created a product that allows you to fix, structure and intensify your brows for up to 24 hours. Its buildable formula is made of gelifying fixators and semi-opague pigments adapted to all brow hair colours to offer optimal comfort, ultra-long hold and a variation in the intensity of your desired look. Its subtle 3-D gloss effect gives a natural sense of volume. Its available in two shades: Glazed Brown and Ash Blonde.
What I like about the wand is that it is precise enough to grab even the smallest brow hairs. Start by creating a soft, even base all along the eyebrow. Then brush upwards to define the shape. End by accentuating the brow arch thanks to the tip of the brush to give strong character to your eye look.
Anna Sui Illuminating BB Cream
This is one of the most buzz-worthy makeup products in Japan right now. New York fashion designer Anna Sui has developed a truly great BB cream. “I was inspired by the idea of this stylish boho girl who is a free spirit during the day, and has an air of allure and intrigue about her at night. The final result is something that transforms easily from day to night,” says Anna.
This formula acts as a primer and foundation while providing nourishing skincare. Two types of stable oils have been combined to enhance skin’s smoothness and glow. Small amounts of perfectly-pore-sized spherical powder particles are infused into the formula, for light but ample coverage. Lychee Honey Extract is the key ingredient to create hydrated and soft skin. The cream is available in light beige and medium beige.
MAC Haute Dog Mineralize Glass in Lap Dog
I’m always on the lookout for the best nude gloss and this one comes pretty close. It’s called Lap Dog and is a pale light pink/nude. It’s one of the best of the fall season. Shop early for this one as it will sell out quickly.
Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in #669 Chataigne
You won’t believe this but the inspiration for Chanel’s trio of fall nail lacquers is a black and red ocellated turkey feather! No joke. The star shade is called Chataigne and it is a mysterious and cool hue that reveals chocolate shimmers in the light.
You can see the Chanel model sporting this colour in the collection photo. The finish is high shine, but if you prefer a more matte effect, there is a Top Coat Velvet that creates a more muted texture.
Lancome Artliner 24H Bold Colour Precision Eyeliner in Amethyst
I’ve been a big fan of Lancome’s Artliner for years. Not only is it easy to use, the formula dries quickly and truly does last a full day. (It quickly comes off by using Bi-Facil makeup remover.) This month we see Artliner in a handful of eye-popping colours. I particularly like Amethyst. This will come in handy if you want to recreate any catwalk beauty looks for fall. There were so many quirky eye designs. I call the trend “eclectic eyes”.
Estee Lauder Double Wear to Go Compact Foundation
This just may be Estee Lauder’s sleeper hit of the season. The wildly popular Double Wear Foundation now comes in a handy compact version – perfect for travel and on-the-go touch-ups. This is the foundation I recommend for anyone traveling to a very humid and hot climate. The makeup really stands up to humidity. One Twitter friend went to a wedding in Cuba and said the temperature was so hot. This was the only foundation that didn’t move all night!
Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Colour High Intensity Liquid Eyeliner
The biggest beauty trend for fall will be eyes rimmed in liner or khol. I saw it in dozens and dozens of shows. What I like is that you can make this look work for any age. Meryl Streep rocks this look in her new movie where she plays a bar band singer. Arden’s sleep pen version is very easy to use as well.
NARS Velvet Shadow Stick in Flibuste
What I admire about Francois Nars is he spends more time in the lab than he does back stage at fashion shows. He’s always thinking of how to make makeup easier and more enjoyable to use. So you’ll see him develop textures and formulas that glide on skin. These new Shadow Sticks are perfect for anyone who struggles with eye makeup. Very well done.

April 30, 2023 at 5:33 amI am so curious about YSL Mascara Couture Brow. I never knew such thing existed. I barely have any brow and want to consider tattooing brows onto my face but this sounds like the next best thing
