7 Great Liquid Lipsticks
Liquid lipsticks are enjoying a renaissance this season thanks to advances in chemistry labs. Scientists have developed far better formulas that are lighter, brighter and longer-lasting than in previous years. Expertise in skincare has been transferred to makeup making matte textures non-drying and much more comfortable. I think the most interesting development in liquid lipsticks is in many cases the water in the formulas evaporates after application leaving pigment and nourishing oils. This is a much thinner film on lips but with the colour payout of traditional lipsticks. Here are seven liquid lipsticks worth checking out.
Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet (in Bright Plum)
What’s special about this new liquid lipstick is the whipped texture. It offers a cushion-soft sensation with a light-as-air feeling. The 14 matte shades range from nude to almost black with long wear.
Sneak Peek: Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro Notorious Red Carpet Collection (in Maharajah)
Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani will unveil six new matte liquid lipsticks next month as an ode to Hollywood Glamour. This formula is more radiant than traditional matte formulas but more sophisticated than classic lip gloss. You’ll notice a velvety sensation on lips with four hours of moisturization and 8 hours of colour.
Dior Addict Fluid Stick Hybrid High Impact Glossy Colour (in Trompe L’oeil)
What is seriously cool about this formula is that the water is used to transfer the colour onto lips. It then evaporates leaving a feather light film of colour that feels weightless. Long-wearing lip stain pigments are encapsulated in spheres of gloss. There is no wax in this product which is traditionally used in lipsticks.
Chanel Rouge Double Intensite Ultra Wear Lip Colour (in Tender Beige)
If you find your lip colour disappears regardless of what you do, this is the formula for you. It does not move. Not at all! Apply the liquid lipstick which boasts a combination of innovative polymers for adherence and even colour. The gel-oil formula ensures a smudge-free result. Once the liquid lipstick has dried, apply the clear gloss top coat to seal in the colour and added shine.
MAC Retro Liquid Matte Lipstick (in Young Attitude)
Fashion-forward hues is what makes MAC stand out from the competition. The sheer volume of colour choice ensures that there is a shade that works for every skin tone. This formula is long-wearing (up to 8 hours) and leaves a polished, matte finish. Added points for the retro-inspired packaging.
Estee Lauder Pure Colour Envy Liquid Lip Potion (in Lethal Red)
This volumizing formula contains an oil-elixir blend of avocado, jojoba and sunflower oils for ultra comfort. The satin-matte finish is highly pigmented and promises bold colour.
YSL Vinyl Lip Cream (in Rose Happening)
High-impact vinyl shine is the star attraction of this liquid lip colour. The diamond-shaped applicator is designed for perfect lip contouring and easy application in just one stroke. Colour will last up to 10 hours with no feathering or bleeding. What is interesting about YSL lip products is much of the inspiration for new textures and formulas comes from the confectionary industry. Gummy Bears, Skittles, and jelly candy technology is studied to develop new textures and finishes.
All of the above liquid lipsticks are available in Canada at select Hudson’s Bay stores and thebay.com
