7 Great Beach-Themed Scents!

We may not be able to book a Caribbean beach vacation due to pandemic restrictions, but that doesn’t mean we can’t experience pristine beaches and azure blue waters thanks to our sense of smell. Perfumers have blended some incredibly beautiful fragrances that really do whisk you away to the tropics. Most incorporate notes like tiare flower, aquatic notes, creamy coconut, driftwood, solar accords and a pinch of sea salt. Not surprisingly, these beach scents continue to be global bestsellers. So close your eyes, inhale one of these fragrances and dream of better times when we can actually visit these beaches in person.
Bobbi Brown Beach
Bobbi Brown had one instruction to the perfumer who was to create her Beach scent. “I want this to smell like a really expensive suntan lotion.” He succeeded. Beach eau de parfum is remarkably good with notes of mandarin, neroli, jasmine, marine notes, sand accord and driftwood. It really does smell like a great suntan lotion.
Replica Beach Walk
Replica Beach Walk has a similar character as Bobbi Brown Beach but with more citrus. The unisex scent features notes of bergamot, lemon, heliotrope, coconut milk and musk. It’s one of the brand’s top sellers worldwide.
Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Coconut Fizz
French luxury beauty and fragrance house Guerlain is renowned for its annual Aqua Allegoria summer-themed fragrances. Each it built around a star ingredient and meant to be worn liberally during the summer months. Coconut Fizz channels exotic beaches and tropical islands. Perfumer Delphine Jelk blends notes of coconut nectar, fresh bergamot citrus, water fruit, freesia, sandalwood and tonka bean. What’s special about this scent is how it dries down after about 20 minutes. The warm sandalwood and tonka bean mix beautifully with the coconut evoking evenings spent on a patio beside the ocean.
Atkinsons Pirates Reserve
If you prefer the rich character of Caribbean rum, Atkinsons Pirates’ Reserve is for you. The oriental spicy scent for him or her boasts notes of rum, vanilla, cacao, heliotrope, jasmine, cedar, cardamom, cashmeran, patchouli, musk and moss. You would be forgiven for closing your eyes, inhaling and instinctively reaching for a rum cocktail served in a coconut.
Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess
Bronze Goddess has quietly become a global bestseller for Estee Lauder even though the American beauty brand rarely advertises or promotes it. Fans know the seasonal collection arrives online and instore in late spring and quickly buy up the stock in literally days. It’s beautifully done with notes of Italian bergamot, ginger extract, mandarin, Indian jasmine sambac, creamy coconut, frangipani petals, vanilla absolute, cashmere wood, musk and amber. It’s described as a solar floral.
Lowe Paula’s Ibiza
This fragrance is a hidden gem in the Loewe fragrance portfolio. Described as an aquatic floral, it adds a fresh green aspect to the classic beach notes. Blended for men and women, this warm, exotic fragrance contains notes of coconut, galbanum, mandarin orange, driftwood, lily, frangipani, patchouli and Madagascar vanilla. Added points for beautiful packaging. A summer vacation in a bottle.
Versace pour femme Dylan Turquoise
The newest addition to the Versace fragrance portfolio is inspired by seaside vacations in the south of Italy. In fact, the ad campaign, starring Hailey Bieber was shot on a remote island off the coast of Italy. The aquatic-woody-floral for her blends notes of Primofiore lemon, pink pepper (that smells like red berries), juicy guava, freesia, cassis, jasmine, clearwood, musk and cedar. It is remarkably light and refreshing. Like diving into a clear blue sea.
Many of the above scents come in a candle version as well as hair mist, body lotion and bath gel. It’s the next best thing to taking a real island beach vacation.
