Would you try St Tropez Self Tan? (Lauren B from Toronto us & won)

Of all the topics I interview dermatologists and scientists about, sun protection is the one they become most passionate about. I remember one doctor from Montreal who told me that I should be using one can of sunscreen every day while on a Caribbean vacation. He spends his days treating patients for skin cancer and not surprisingly has become one of the country’s most vocal advocates for daily sun protection. What I’ve learned is that there is no such thing as a healthy tan. Our society views a golden bronze as healthy and flattering but that golden hue is the skin’s first line of defence against harmful UV rays. The body produces excess melanin to protect against sun damage. The only truly safe tan is one that comes out of a can or tube.

st tropezFor this reason, I’m a big fan of St Tropez. This self-tan brand has developed products that look completely natural without any risk to skin. You can choose a light sun-kissed glow to a deep, dark bronze. Our pro makeup artist Nina Westbury tells me that when she worked at Harrod’s years ago, she and her coworkers would start applying the product on a Wednesday to have the perfect colour for clubbing on Saturday night. These are products that are easy to use and don’t leave streaks or stains.

st tropezThe Giveaway: I gave away this mammoth St Tropez set to give away to one lucky reader. To enter, I asked readers to tell me in a blog post comment below if they use self-tanners regularly. Lauren B from Canada told us and we drew her name from all entries. Congrats Lauren!

St tropez self tanSt Tropez is available in Canada at select Hudson’s Bay stores and thebay.com

Fantastic prize. I suffer with Polymorphous light eruption (PMLE) and have to shy away from the sun. Leaving me very pale and washed out. I’ve never been very good with tanning products but would love to give this a try. To have a healthy sun-kissed glow would be amazing.

I have tried numerous self tanners and have had zero luck. These weren’t cheap ones either. I thought that perhaps because my skin is so fair that it was too drastic a change. I’ve yet to try St. Tropez as I gave up last year spending money to try new brands. I’m quite excited about this. If it has the Dave stamp of approval then I’m all for trying it!

I don’t really use self-tanners. Would love to though, especially as I look like Casper (I’m Scottish) so it’d be great getting some colour @cayleighleto

I would love try these, because of where I live, a very remote Scottish island doesn’t give us much sun, here we have to take vitamin d supplements. So to have a nice looking tan makes you feel happy and look good…..
