When it comes to creating designer scents, perfumers usually look to uplifting, energizing and invigorating notes to add character and excitement to a formula. Ginseng and mint are frequently incorporated into men’s sport scents to create a mood of energy and action. Bergamot, lemon, lime and orange are considered ‘happy’ notes and create a feeling of optimism and anticipation. Raspberry and rhubarb notes also add a fresh kick to a perfume.
So the concept of creating a fragrance that lulls you to sleep is quite novel. French bath and body brands have tapped lavender for sleep sachets for decades but no one that I can think of has set out to design a fragrance that is calming, soothing and yet still a fine fragrance. Until now. Mugler has just unveiled its Angel Etoile Des Reves, its first sleeping fragrance. It’s a gentle scent the combines notes of praline, hedione, patchouli, vanilla and musk. It is housed in a round night sky-blue bottle adorned by stars and moons. A black atomizer adds a vintage feel. One spritz to your pillow at night sets the stage for sweet dreams.
