Japanese artistry brand shu uemura is in a playful mood for spring. That is clearly evident at first glance at its limited edition makeup collection packed with joyful pinks, turquoise and mango orange. It’s meant to encourage beauty enthusiasts to have fun and experiment with colour and texture.
“At shu uemura, the seasonal collections usually focus on a particular design or technique, but for this spring 2017 spring/summer collection, I decided to focus on the pleasure and happiness that people can derive from makeup and fashion,” explains Uchiide, the brand’s international makeup director. I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing him before and I have never seen a makeup artist who is more precise with his application. It is like watching a master painter at work. His placement of colour is exact and his technique perfect.
“Using makeup is about expressing yourself, although the feeling of the collection and pretty overall, you can adapt these products to suit your own mood and create any look you want – something a bit more grown up, or fanciful and fresh, or both at once, depending on how you feel with the real emphasis on the eyes.” He says ‘joy’ is the main theme of the collection and the concept of the makeup is focusing on colour rather than technique, and using the products in a light and simple way. “The colour palette of the entire collection relies on retro-inspired and spring-like bright coordination, and the whole 2017 spring/summer collection has harmony with 70s and 80s fashion, which will continue to be a major trend, and will only increase people’s enthusiasm.” Here’s a look at the collection:

“Each palette has a main focus of colour such as orange, pink or blue, which will define the feeling of the overall look. Use the darkest colour first to define and frame along the lash line. Next, use the main colour washed over the middle of the eyelids. Finally, blend everything seamlessly using the highlight colour.” – Uchiide
