Day look: Retro Glow
Pro-tip: Spend enough time before you apply makeup to ensure that your skin is properly prepped by cleansing and moisturizing well. This is a crucial step in helping your foundation lay on the skin properly and look as natural as possible. For a glowing, energized complexion, try giving your moisturizer a potent vitamin C boost which will bring immediate radiance to the skin. Hydrate skin and prepare for makeup by applying moisturizer to your face using a gentle tapping motion always allowing a few minutes for it to absorb into skin.
Pro-tip: In real life it is best to pick one feature and play up the drama. Whether it’s a smouldering eye or a bold, matte lip; natural, glowing skin provides a complementary balance to strong features and looks very modern right now. Keep blush neutral and light to avoid competing with a dramatic eye or lip. This will also keep your makeup from appearing dated.
Pro-tip: Try applying lip colour first, especially if you’re going with a bold shade. It helps you to better gauge and adjust the intensity of the other makeup shades that you apply to your face.
Pro-tip To define the lip, I like to take the lipstick and put a little on the tip of a Q-Tip and go along the natural lip line for a clear and precise line. To give lips dimension, a wash of gloss in a complementary hue can be layered on top of lipstick to reinforce the vivid colour. Apply the gloss to the center of lips first and blend out to make them appear fuller.
Pro-tip: For the most natural-looking, even-toned complexion, take your foundation brush and dab foundation in dots onto your face in the form of a V shape – beginning right under the outer corner of the eye and down to the chin for both sides. Blend foundation within the V-zone first then move outwards. Use a lighter touch on the thinner parts of the face such as nose, around the eyes, jaw line, and forehead where less product should be used.
Pro-tip: To balance a bold lip, lightly define eyes by lining across the lash line and creating a slight wing to open up eyes. Don’t be afraid to use liquid liner, let your lash line guide the liquid pen. Use a Q-tip to clean up under the wing to sharpen the line.
