Elizabeth herself participated in the suffrage movement, marching with the women of Fifth Avenue in New York to demand the right to vote. She noticed the suffragettes wore red lipstick so she provided them with Elizabeth Arden lipstick in Montezuma Red. She would be a champion of women’s rights for the rest of her life and became the first female business woman to be featured on the cover of Time magazine in 1946. Her contribution to the cosmetics industry was acknowledged in 1962 when the French government presented her with the Legion d’Honneur, France’s highest award for distinguished service that enhances the country’s reputation. She was fond of saying, “It is remarkable what a woman can accomplish with just a little ambition.”

What ladies, both Elizabeth and Reese! I didn’t know this about Arden, and I didn’t know suffragetts wore red lipstick. This is so cool! Thank you for letting us know and, yes, I’m wearing red lipstick. Always.
