On January 28th, we’ll welcome the Year of the Rooster according to the Chinese Lunar Calendar. Those born under the rooster sign are said to be observant, hardworking, confident, courageous, talented and honest. Lucky colours include: gold, brown and yellow. The flower of luck is the gladioli. Lucky numbers include 5, 7 and 8. What started out for many years to be a Chinese celebration has translated into a holiday that everyone can enjoy. The red and gold displays in Chinese cultural centres and stores are beautiful and elaborate. And beauty companies have embraced the occasion with more and more limited edition packages, products and counter displays. Many offer sets of lucky red envelopes used to give money to loved ones. Here are some of my favourite items this year.
